** What does the Bible have to say about socialism? You find man-made anti-God system going against the main tenets found in Scripture <M1491>
• Scripture affirms the dignity of WORK
Ephesians 4:28 NIV
[28] Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.
• Scripture affirms PRIVATE PROPERTY (Ex 22)
Exodus 22:9 NIV
[9] In all cases of illegal possession of an ox, a donkey, a sheep, a garment, or any other lost property about which somebody says, 'This is mine,' both parties are to bring their cases before the judges. The one whom the judges declare guilty must pay back double to the other.
• Scripture condemns THEFT
Exodus 20:15 NIV
[15] “You shall not steal.
• Scripture condemns COVETOUSNESS
Exodus 20:17 NIV
[17] “You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
• Scripture promotes SAVING
Proverbs 13:22 NIV
[22] A good person leaves an inheritance for their children's children, but a sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous.
• Scripture promotes THRIFT
Proverbs 21:20 NIV
[20] The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down.
• Scripture promotes LAND ownership (Acts 4)
Acts 4:33-37 NIV
[33] With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God's grace was so powerfully at work in them all [34] that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales [35] and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need. [36] Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means “son of encouragement”), [37] sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles' feet.
• Scripture promotes INVESTMENT (Matt 25)
Matthew 25:20-21 NIV
[20] The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.' [21] “His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'
• The laborer is worthy of his WAGES
Luke 10:7 NIV
[7] Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
• FOLLOW GOD, not man
• In a Marxist state, the laws of man always override the laws of God
• Leaders in socialist countries always suppress Christianity because Biblical truth empowers citizen-hostages to break free of Marxist control <M1508>
• In this light, beware of blending Christianity with politics (as postmillennialists and ‘Christian Nationalists’ advocate) because, as history tells us, it leads to a state-run church where authority is then given to the state instead of God
• Don’t confuse getting involved in politics with joining a political party – it means sharing the gospel and advocating for God’s truth in the world He has placed us <K122>
• Consider ‘politics as applied morality’ <A14>
• Followers of Christ are to keep their focus on what truly matters: that Christ came to die for our sins and resurrected for our salvation; if we don’t get this right, we lose everything! <G77>
Acts 5:29 NIV
[29] Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings!
** God created the family unit to set the pace for which society was created; God designed the family and decided what it would be <E54>
• God owns the family by ‘created fiat’ — not government or anyone else
• God backs the family when they operate as He created them to operate
• Men must take on the responsibility they have in the family, and own their mistakes, or paganism sets in <E58>
• Families who choose to go their own way will ‘pick up the tab’ to fix the issues that arise
• The future of every civilization rests on the state of the family <D40>
Genesis 5:1 NIV
[1] This is the written account of Adam's family line. When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God.
Proverbs 13:24 NIV
[24] Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.
Proverbs 19:18 NIV
[18] Discipline your children, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to their death.
Isaiah 3:12 NIV [When men do not lead]
[12] Youths oppress my people, women rule over them. My people, your guides lead you astray; they turn you from the path.
** God made male and female and gave us unique qualities to exhibit
• For instance, as image-bearers of God, men are to exhibit tough discipline with an altruistic (loving) motive
• As it turns out, men are attacked in today’s society if this is attempted because society doesn’t want to be held accountable for anything
• Don’t buy into society’s label of ‘male toxicity’ because we are made in His image
• Men are to exhibit their God-given male character, as women are to exhibit the qualities given them
• Trouble is, society has corrupted and confused these God-given qualities, so we end up trying to survive in a dysfunctional society <D40>
Hebrews 12:5-6 NIV
[5] And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, [6] because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”
Proverbs 3:11-12 NIV
[11] My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, [12] because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.
Proverbs 13:24 NIV
[24] Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.
Proverbs 19:18 NIV
[18] Discipline your children, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to their death.
Revelation 3:19 NIV
[19] Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.
Psalm 94:12 NIV
[12] Blessed is the one you discipline, Lord, the one you teach from your law
** Early childhood teaching requires discipline from both parents, including corporal punishment that comes from a balance of kindness and love <M130>
• The Jewish people were noted for their love of children and were among the best of parents in the ancient world
• Verses advocating for corporal punishment in no way support an abusive approach to child-rearing, but instead emphasize the necessity of of discipline if boys and girls are to freely choose God’s way as adults <R1795>
• There is great hope that the use of ‘divine ordinance’ of the rod will produce godly virtue and parental joy
Proverbs 13:24 NIV
[24] Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.
Proverbs 10:13 NIV
[13] Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning, but a rod is for the back of one who has no sense.
Proverbs 19:18 NIV
[18] Discipline your children, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to their death.
Proverbs 23:13-16,24-25 NIV
[13] Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die. [14] Punish them with the rod and save them from death. [15] My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad indeed; [16] my inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak what is right. [24] The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him. [25] May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful!
• Such discipline must have the right motivation and appropriate severity
• One who has genuine affection for the child but withholds corporal punishment will produce the same kind of child as a parent who hates his offspring
Hebrews 12:5-11 NIV
[5] And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, [6] because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.” [7] Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? [8] If you are not disciplined---and everyone undergoes discipline---then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. [9] Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! [10] They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. [11] No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
Ephesians 6:4 NIV
[4] Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
Proverbs 15:31-32 NIV
[31] Whoever heeds life-giving correction will be at home among the wise. [32] Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.
Proverbs 17:10 NIV
[10] A rebuke impresses a discerning person more than a hundred lashes a fool.
Proverbs 29:21 NIV
[21] A servant pampered from youth will turn out to be insolent.
Proverbs 29:15,17 NIV
[15] A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom, but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother. [17] Discipline your children, and they will give you peace; they will bring you the delights you desire.
Prov 13.
