  1. Most of what Nate says comes from one of his previous articles
  2. Can find a lot of other good info on Nat Geo
  3. Not really good sources for this but gum is made of plastic
  4. How Stuff Works has surprisingly good info on plastics as well
  5. No article really says it flat out but let me tell you, PLA is not recycled and it’s not commonly composted as advertised
  1. To me this source is trustworthy but some may have doubts
  1. Oxo Biodegradeable is questionable
  2. Biodegradable bags actually survive! The article is little click-baity, most of the bags did break down in certain ideal conditions, but in less than ideal situations other types lasted forever.
  3. There are examples of bio-plastics made from agriculture waste. Not really commercial yet to my knowledge. Happy to be wrong about this.
  4. These bags do degrade in water, and are from Indonesia
  1. The problem though, is that if not in water they do not degrade (which to some is an advantage)
  1. See my News Lens article for more info on Cargill making bio-plastic with Dow
  2. Dow is a pretty messed up company
  3. You know it’s not good when you have a Wikipedia about your crimes
  4. See Berekely article for number about 150 composting sites
  1. This might be slightly outdated, but I can’t imagine it’s improved much
  1. This confusing article explains how resin codes on plastic make no sense
