Wingu Academy Concession Policy
Wingu Academy
Concession Policy
Purpose
The aim of this document is to outline, explain and establish the framework and procedure that Wingu Academy follows for students with Special Educational Needs that need concession for their assessments, tests and exams. This is the support that Wingu Academy offers. Kindly note, not every exam centre has the means to support the students in the same manner , and it is the responsibility of the legal guardian to find a good fit centre for your specific needs when writing exams.

A learner might qualify for having Special Education Needs if they experience any of the special needs below: [1]

Wingu - Importance of Concession for Special Education Needs
We at Wingu recognize and value all our learners with Special Education Needs therefore, we strive to make the learning experience with us more manageable for all learners.
The “one-size-fits-all” approach has been proven to not be effective as the learners are not all the same and a mindful approach has to be taken to ensure that all learners have the suitable support they need.
At Wingu Academy, we recognize that not all learners are able to fully show their true academic ability under the normal examination conditions, rules and regulations. Therefore, concession for students will be granted to allow learners with any temporary or permanent special learning needs.
Concessions allowed by Wingu Academy
The nature of the concessions allowed at Wingu Academy is all dependant on the special learning needs:
• Use of an amanuensis/scribe
• Use of a reader
• A ‘stop the clock’ concession. This concession allows the candidate the opportunity of having the exam time clock stopped for a specified time (time is dependent on the nature of the disorder) in order to rest, stretch, take medication or use the bathroom.
• Additional writing time. Time in the examinations, in the context of the expected competencies and additional time granted will be per examination and not per hour.
• Additional reading time. This allows the candidate additional time to read the scenarios before starting to write the examination and does not necessarily include additional examination writing time.
