Nebraska Off-Road Series 2023 Financial Report
2023 Income:
In 2023 N.O.S. had an income of $19,414 with an average of roughly $2,500 coming from five races and $7,000 coming from sponsorships. This breaks down to roughly 36% from sponsorships and 64% from registration fees.
2023 Expenses:
In 2023 the Nebraska Off-Road Series spent $19,043. Our primary costs were volunteers, cash prizes, insurance, timing and officials, branded race supplies and venue permit/rental costs. These items made up almost 75% of our spending, with the other 25% being occupied by our legal fees to obtain 501c3 status, infrastructure improvements including the retrofitting of a trailer, permits, travel expenses, and miscellaneous supplies. With the limited amount of sponsorship secured in 2023, two main areas were affected: marketing and additional infrastructure improvements.
2024 Projection
We have a small list of important goals for 2024, and they will all take time, as well as effort, and have a cost associated with them. With those goals in mind, NOS is looking to obtain funding to have an overall budget for 2024 of $27,500. $15,000 of this budget would be obtained from sponsorship and $12,500 obtained from race registration.
2024 Goals:
The first and most important goal for NOS in 2024 is to exponentially increase the amount of marketing done throughout the year. Within this goal there are two main objectives. The first objective is to increase consistent posting on our social media pages and update our website regularly to include up to date results and event photos. The second objective is to produce print media and t-shirts to spread the reach of NOS to outside our online platforms. This objective comes at a high cost, but we believe it has been the missing piece of NOS the last two years.
Our second goal is to expand to new venues outside the Omaha/Lincoln Metro areas. This goal is being put in place out of necessity, but we want to capitalize on this opportunity by expanding the region we race in. We are currently looking into new venues in Blair, Sioux City, and Council Bluffs. With further distances to travel come more costs and organizational head winds thus the increase in our travel cost projection for 2024.
Our third goal is to increase average attendance per race by 10%. We improved average attendance by 4% in 2023 (92 riders in 2022, 96 riders in 2023) and we believe with our increase in marketing we will be able to improve that metric in 2024. This would result in an average attendance of 106 riders at each NOS event in 2024.
Our fourth and final goal is to integrate more with our local trail building and maintenance organization, T.H.O.R. We hope to help create successful trail days and help grow their Trailfest event in September of 2024.
