Warrior News and Events

On-Campus Parking is now SOLD OUT:  On-Campus Parking is now SOLD OUT! Any students looking for parking during the school day will be directed to our satellite, OFF-CAMPUS parking at Our Lady of Mercy Church.

First Period Tardy Procedural Changes:  The following information is to inform our school community of a practice we will begin instituting this second semester to better encourage student promptness for 1st period school arrival. The past few months we have noticed more students not getting to their first period class at the start of the 7:25 bell. In many cases this is just students needing to make it more of a priority in being prompt for first period, as opposed to a legitimate reason for tardiness.  Thus, we will begin the following practice starting the week of January 23rd and will continue this practice throughout second semester to support promptness for first period. Starting Monday January 23rd, we will randomly select days of the week in which teachers will close their doors at the second bell (7:25) and not allow late student entrance. Those students who are late will be directed to our cafeteria asked to enter through Door 1. In the cafeteria they will be attended for and supervised for the full first period. This will count for an unexcused absence towards their first period class that day. Students will be allowed to complete work through google classroom, however credit could be negated due to the un-excused absence.  We hope this practice will reinforce the importance of planning and preparing for the school day to begin on time, at 7:25. As we often do in school, many of the lessons we try to instill are greater than the content we teach, the importance of being prompt and prepared is one of those future focusses. We appreciate your partnership in this messaging and will continue to work with our students in supporting positive practices.

Course Selection Closes on Sunday, January 29th:  Warriors, this is a reminder that the course selection window closes in StudentVue & ParentVue on Sunday, January 29th at 11:59pm. Please login to review your current teacher recommendations and course selections. Families should submit level change requests by this date.

Incoming Freshmen: Once the course selection window closes in ParentVue and StudentVue, course requests will be view only. Waubonsie Valley school counselors will individually review each student's course request to make sure that the right number of classes have been selected and that the student is on track for graduation. Middle school counselors will be informed of any student who has errors in their course requests, including selecting too few or too many courses. Waubonsie Valley school counselors will then visit the middle schools in mid-February to resolve schedule request concerns.

Current WVHS Students: Once the course selection window closes in ParentVue and StudentVue, course requests will be view only; however students will still have the opportunity to discuss course selections with their school counselor. Between January 30 and February 24, 2023, school counselors will be meeting with current students during the science class. A schedule of science class appointments can be found here . At their course selection appointment students will review progress towards graduation, post-secondary entrance requirements and then lock in their course selection with their school counselor. No changes can be made after February 24th.  Students and families are highly encouraged to have conversations about their 2023-24 course selections and how their future classes can support their future college, career and life goals. Additional resources supporting the course selection process can be found here

UCHICAGO Impact 5 Essentials Annual Survey

School Environment Matters: IPSD204 Administers Eleventh Illinois 5Essentials Survey to Improve Student Learning.  Students, teachers and parents weigh in on school climate and learning conditions.  On January 24 - IPSD204 will join the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) in the eleventh statewide survey of school climate and learning conditions. The survey provides a unique opportunity for students, teachers and parents to have a voice in improving their schools. From January 24 through March 31, students and teachers will be asked to take a 25 -minute research-based survey to help identify strengths and weaknesses in their school’s learning environment. The parent survey supplement will also be administered during the same survey window. These surveys will serve as an opportunity for schools to reflect on progress since the last statewide implementation.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey provides a comprehensive picture of a school’s organizational culture in an individualized report measuring five “essentials” critical for school success:

-- Effective Leaders

-- Collaborative Teachers

-- Involved Families

-- Supportive Environment

-- Ambitious Instruction

All district schools, including alternative schools that fall under the district’s domain, are required to participate in a school learning conditions survey every year. Starting in school year 2018-19, the survey will be required annually. The survey was deemed an important component to balanced accountability under the state’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) plan by stakeholders, which resulted in state legislative changes requiring the survey annually.

Recent legislation (105 ILCS 5/2-3.153) allows school districts the option to select an alternative to the 5Essentials from a pre-approved pool for the 2022-23 administration. Selection of an alternative required school board and local union approval and was at the district’s own expense. Details on survey alternatives can be found on the State Board’s website:

IPSD204 and Waubonsie Valley have consistently participated in the statewide 5Essentials Survey and is opting to administer the survey to parents, teachers and students again this year to continue tracking and informing progress.

Principals and superintendents will receive their 5Essentials Reports in May 2023. Survey results will also be reported publicly on the 5Essentials reporting site in Spring 2023 and on the State School Report Card website in Fall 2023. An optional parent survey supplement is again available to all schools as a supplement to the 5Essentials Survey for teachers and students—results from the parent survey supplement will be included only in the individual school 5Essential Reports. Since 2013-14, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey has been normed using the 2012-13 statewide results so that all schools can demonstrate progress over time.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your insight and feedback on this survey.

On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, UChicago Impact is providing Illinois 5Essentials to schools statewide. Teachers, students, and parents may complete the Illinois 5Essentials Survey online. For more information visit:

Students will take this survey during the PE class during the week of Jan 31st - Feb 3rd. If you would like to Opt Out of this survey, please communicate with
