Dear Greenburgh Community:

As we approach the end of Hispanic Heritage Month, our schools have been learning about and participating in activities to immerse them in the culture and history of Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America, as well as the many contributions of Hispanic and Latin people. Just today, students at RJB and the middle high school enjoyed assemblies with student presentations, short plays, karaoke, poetry representing the Afro-Latino population, a parade of flags, trivia and prizes, and lots of dancing! As I have mentioned in past communication, we are proud that our District is made up of many different backgrounds and cultures, and we appreciate the importance of helping our students see themselves in their educational experiences.

Please mark your calendar for some upcoming events and meetings. First, get ready for a night of fun and laughter with the Harlem Wizards, who are returning to the Woodlands Middle High School gym on Saturday, October 19th at 6 p.m. The Wizards will face off against our very own teachers and staff. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. Our students already got a preview of this excitement when the Wizards visited our schools to show off their stunts this week. Tickets are available for purchase here.

Also, we are hosting three virtual meetings regarding the International Baccalaureate program for the DP parents. The first meeting is for Year 1 parents (current juniors) and will take place on October 24th at 7 p.m. Looking ahead, the second is on November 6 at 7 p.m. and the third is for Year 2 parents on December 12th at 7 p.m.

For those observing Yom Kippur, I wish you a meaningful fast. And to the broader community, please remember that schools and district offices are closed on Monday, October 14th, in recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ and Columbus Day. We hope you have a lovely weekend and will see you on Tuesday, October 15th.

Estimada Comunidad de Greenburgh:

A medida que nos acercamos al final del Mes de la Herencia Hispana, nuestras escuelas han estado aprendiendo y participando en actividades para sumergirlas en la cultura y la historia de España, México, el Caribe y América Central y del Sur, así como las muchas contribuciones de los Hispanos y los Latinos. Precisamente hoy, los estudiantes de RJB y de la escuela secundaria disfrutaron de asambleas con presentaciones estudiantiles, obras de teatro cortas, karaoke, poesía representando a la población afrolatina, un desfile de banderas, trivia y premios, ¡y mucho baile! Como mencioné en comunicaciones anteriores, estamos orgullosos de que nuestro Distrito esté compuesto de muchos orígenes y culturas diferentes, y apreciamos la importancia de ayudar a nuestros estudiantes a verse a sí mismos en sus experiencias educativas.

Marque su calendario para algunos próximos eventos y reuniones. Primero, prepárese para una noche de diversión y risas con los Harlem Wizards, quienes regresarán al gimnasio de Woodlands Middle High School el Sábado 19 de Octubre a las 6 pm. Los Wizards se enfrentarán a nuestros propios maestros y personal. Las puertas se abren a las 5:00 p.m. Nuestros estudiantes ya tuvieron un adelanto de esta emoción cuando los Wizards visitaron nuestras escuelas para mostrar sus acrobacias esta semana. Además, organizaremos tres reuniones virtuales sobre el programa de Bachillerato Internacional para los padres del PD. La primera reunión es para padres de Year 1 (actualmente juniors) y tendrá lugar el 24 de Octubre a las 7 p.m. De cara al futuro, el segundo es el 6 de Noviembre a las 7 p.m. y el tercero es para padres de Year 2 el 12 de Diciembre a las 7 p.m.

A quienes observan Yom Kipur, les deseo un ayuno significativo. Y a la comunidad en general, recuerden que las escuelas y oficinas del distrito estarán cerradas el Lunes 14 de Octubre, en reconocimiento al Día de los Pueblos Indígenas y de Colón. Esperamos que tengas un hermoso fin de semana y nos vemos el Martes 15 de Octubre.
