SLT Minutes

Member Updates

* The vote for the UFT member taking over for Elena Ponce’s position closes today so our new teacher member will join us starting at our next meeting.

* The PTA will be holding another election to replace Louis on the team.

* Our Chairperson will be Jen Giordano and our secretary will be Jessica Sussman.

* Number of Years for Current Team Members:

• Our Principal (Ms. Ebeid-Cadotte), UFT Rep (Ms. Zaccheo), and PTA President (Mrs. Medina) are all mandated members.
• All 3 Teacher members (Mrs. Giordano, Ms. Sussman, and whoever is replacing Mrs. Ponce) are serving in their second year so elections will need to be held at the end of the year to fill all 3 positions.
• Parent Members- whoever replaces Louis, Nicole, and Myra are all serving in their first year so they still have 1 more year to serve. However, Vanessa is serving in her second year and so an election for a parent member will need to take place at the end of the year.

Renumeration Vote

* There is $3,000 set aside in galaxy for the 10 members of SLT which equals about $10 per member per meeting for a stipend.

The team voted and said yes to Renumeration.

Review ByLaws

* Attendance Matters- send an email to Jen Giordano, our Chairperson, if you are unable to attend a meeting.

* Once voted onto the team it is a 2 year term and members may not serve 3 consecutive terms unless no one else is willing.

* If you miss more than 2 meetings without a valid excuse, you may be removed from the team.

* Reaching out to Bill Chin for wording to add in a stipulation about extenuating circumstances in which a member needs to attend SLT meetings virtually.

Title 1 Funding for After School Tier 2 and 3 Program

* Over the summer Ms. Sussman attended a PD for Phonics for Reading while Mrs. Giordano and Ms. Zaccheo attended a S.P.I.R.E. PD. These are the programs that the district is requesting to be used to support our Tier 3 students.

* We have about 146 students who fall into the Tier 3 category.

* We would like to start our Phonics for Reading after school program the 2nd week of October. Last year the program was 2 days a week for an hour each day. We need to decide if we want to keep it the same for this year or if we want to do an hour and a half or three days.

* We are lucky that our school has been using the Phonics for Reading program after school for the past 2 years and that is the program the district chose.

The team voted and APPROVED the Title I funding for after school.

Family Involvement Funding

* We would like to invite dancers to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Dance Celebration during the school day. The performance would take place during the recess flip and flop for all 3 lunch periods. The cost for the 6 total performances is $4,000.

The team voted and APPROVED the Family Involvement Funding for the performances.

Support for our students with IEPs in NIA

* The D4DC organization supplies funding for NIA and we would need funding if we would like to hire paras to stay for NIA.

* Ms. Ebeid-Cadotte is meeting with NIA director Learta today. One of the topics that they will discuss are the18 students with IEPs in NIA and how they are being supported.

* Mrs. Campanella will also stay and do a walk through during NIA one afternoon to check in on the 18 students with IEPs and see if they require any more support than they are receiving.
