‘Preparing each child for their future in an ever-changing world’

Please remember to look at the Class Pages for topic webs and class letters

NEWSLETTER 11                                                                        Monday 25th February 2019

Dear families

Welcome back!  I hope you all had a restful half term and are ready for the term ahead.  It was great to catch up with most of you at Parents Evening and thank you for your positive feedback about the new set up.  As always, if you have any questions, concerns or worries, please make an appointment to see myself or your child’s class teacher when the issue arises.  Please remember to also share with us successes and achievements your children have accomplished as well as any concerns you may have - we love hearing those!  We have got a fantastic term ahead with lots of great science opportunities and exciting ‘days’ to support important causes and can’t wait to get started!

Best wishes

Mrs Lewis

Exciting News

I’m sure you will join me in congratulating Mr MacKenzie and his wife on the safe arrival of their new baby son in half term, William Arthur MacKenzie.  Mr MacKenzie will be on paternity leave this week and will return next Monday 4th March.  Mrs Surtell will be teaching the class this week.

Topic Webs and Class Letters

Please follow this link to access the Parent Information Letters and Topic Webs for this term.  These should hopefully provide the general information you need and Curriculum coverage for the term.  Please note, year 2’s topic web and letter will follow shortly.

World Book Day

On Thursday 7th March we will be celebrating World Book Day. Children are invited to come into school dressed as their favourite book character and to bring in their favourite book to share.  They will all bring home a £1 World Book Day book token on the day.

Charitable Causes and Special Days

There are a number of special days and causes that we would like to celebrate and support this term.  Rather than keep asking for separate donations, please feel free to just give one donation and then we will split the total across the events. The aim of the days is largely to raise awareness within school and offer our support to events that are important to our school community.

Parent Questionnaire

If you haven’t already done so, please follow this link to complete the annual Parent Questionnaire.

On Saturday 16th March, the PTA will be holding a Super STEM Day at school. Suitable for primary school children, this promises to be a fun-packed day full of activities designed to engage children in science, technology, engineering and maths, featuring hovercrafts, fossils, forensics, marine creatures, and more!

We also need any CDs or DVDs for the event.  If you have any that you no longer need or want, please drop them into the school office.

We will be asking for volunteers to help run the ticket and refreshments stall on the day, if you can please help even just for 30 minutes please come and speak to a member of the PTA or the office.

Order your advance tickets here: https://goo.gl/forms/87nOP5JMabqWCwrv2).

Previous Reminders (a space for prior notices for easy access!)

We have noticed that a number of children are not wearing the correct uniform.  Please click here to visit the link on school website about school uniform.  Please note though that all children should be wearing black school shoes (not trainers), polo shirts should only be worn by children in Reception and ties are compulsory from year 2 (they are optional in year 1).  We are also finding that lots of uniform and PE kit is unnamed - please ensure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name.  Please also make sure your children attend school with warm coats, hats and gloves.

Reading Expectations

Please continue to read regularly with your children and record their reading in their reading record or homework diary.  We have now set up a new Reading Bingo for this term and shared it with the children.  Please click below to see a copy.

Years 3 and 4

Years 5 and 6

Medical Updates

If there have been any changes or updates to your child’s medical needs, including medications and allergies, please ensure that you inform the school and fill out the relevant forms.  If your child has an inhaler or epipen in school please check the medication is in date!

Please also remember we are a nut and sesame seed free school, can we ask that you do not send your children in with any nut product - this includes Nutella and Peanut butter.

RM Unify

Remember all children have a log in to RM Unify (which can be found in their reading record or homework diary).  Please use these websites to support your child’s learning at home.  RM Unify can be accessed via the Pupil Area on the school website or via the following link https://hagbourneschool.rmunify.com/.  Children in Key Stage 2 now also have access to Times Tables Rockstars to support them with learning their times tables.

Car Park

Please could we ask that only Blue Badge holders park in the disabled spaces in the village hall.  Please also take care not to block these spaces in.  We do have families in our own school who need to use these spaces and they may also be needed by Blue Badge holders from the wider community.  If this continues to be an issue, we will ask the local PCSOs to monitor the situation.

Lunch Menu

Please see here for next terms menu, remember to log onto Live Kitchen and select school lunches.

These are not recommended by the school but maybe of some interest to you.
