Competition Instructions

Objective: Record a vlog-style video discussing your review of a current Tome Book Award book.
Learning Targets:
- student gains a deeper understanding of visual storytelling
- student develops their skills in graphic design and multimedia art
- student practices articulation and communication skills through verbally reviewing and recommending the book
- Analyzing the book's plot, characters, and themes enhances the student's critical thinking and literary analysis abilities.
- Creating a script helps the student improve their writing skills, focusing on concise and engaging content.
- Suggesting read alikes allows the student to demonstrate understanding of literary genres and themes, fostering their expertise in literature.
Final Product Guidelines:
- Must be a video with a sharable link to a public or unlisted URL, such as YouTube.
- Must clearly be the student’s own original work - NO AI ALLOWED.
- Should be 2-4 minutes in length for elementary/ 3-5 minutes in length for middle/high.
- Should be based on a Tome Book Award book for the current school year from the student’s grade level list that the student has read entirely.
- Should be in the style of a YouTube Book Review. Watch this example video for inspiration:
- No need to include “like” and “subscribe” reminders. Just be you!
- Should be engaging & enjoyable to watch, and should entice the viewer to want to read the book
- High quality, professional delivery of content
- Vlog video should include:
- Title & author of Tome Book Award book
- A physical copy of the book to show viewers, or image of book cover on screen
- Brief description of the plot of the book, but no spoilers!
- Personal review of the book
- Recommendations of who would enjoy this book
- Recommendations of “read-alikes” or other books by the author readers might enjoy
- Student provides information about other books in the series if relevant, other books by the same author, a movie about the book, etc. that might interest the reader or some other relevant, interesting addition to their video.
