Accommodations and/or modifications: Appropriate accommodations and/or modifications will be provided for students with documented disabilities. Accommodations and modifications are types of adaptations that are made to the environment, curriculum, instruction, or assessment practices in order for students with disabilities to be successful learners and actively participate with other students in the general education classroom or in school-wide activities. Specific accommodations and modifications are determined by the student’s Section 504 team or Individual Education Program team. If a student with a documented disability is eligible to receive accommodations and/or modifications their special education case manager will contact me within the first two weeks of class and provide me with explicit directions and/or resources to implement the accommodations and/or modifications that are included on the student’s Section 504 plan or Individual Education Program. Communication is essential to the successful completion of course expectations and the implementation of accommodations and/or modifications.

Behavior Expectations: Student success is dependent upon respecting and following the rules of conduct outlined in Board Policy #3241 and described in the student handbook. Both are available on the website at www.eastmont206.org. For more information on specific classroom behaviors, check out the band handbook.

Attendance Policy: As with all other courses and activities offered here at Eastmont Junior High School, attendance at all band events is expected of every student.  The only excusable absences are pre-arranged school conflicts and those that would be excused by the school for regular attendance records, i.e. illness, death in the family, or religious holidays. Eastmont School District Policy and Procedures #3122 for excused absences and make-up work apply to this course. Specifically, “If an absence is excused, the student will be permitted to make up all missed assignments outside of class under reasonable conditions and time limits...” All the activities and learning opportunities for this course are expected to be completed. Absences, whether excused or unexcused, cause gaps in learning.

Missed Performance Policy: A concert is a very special interaction between performer and listener that cannot be duplicated or re-created in any other setting.  Concerts are an essential part of the life of a young musician.  Students’ progress is very evident to the audience from one concert to the next.  Concerts are comparable and equal to final exams.  Students are expected to attend all concerts.

Make-up Policy: Sometimes in life, things happen that make it impossible for a student to attend a concert.  Missed concerts will affect a student’s grade, but some absences are eligible for make-up. Students may make-up a concert IF:

  1. Parents/guardians (NOT students) contact the director in advance of the absence

AND

  1. The absence was for the student’s own severe illness or a death in the family

Concert Make-Up Options:

  1. Perform a solo in class
  2. Perform a solo or with another ensemble at an event outside of school (church, at a camp, at someone’s birthday, etc.).  You must have a written note from whoever was in charge of the event (Pastor, community center coordinator, etc.).

Playing tests: Students may retake playing tests as many times as they want, taking the

highest grade every time.

Printed Documents: Print or translated copies of digital documents are available. Please contact the main office
