5.   Nearly 494,000 people in San Diego County, including children living in poverty, working poor-families, fixed-income seniors, and low-income active-duty military families will face food insecurity this holiday season.  LJHS ASB wants your help feeding individuals and families in need this holiday season!

HERE’S WHAT YOU AND YOUR PERIOD 4 CAN DO TO HELP

The annual Canned Food Drive, that benefits the San Diego Food Bank, will begin Nov. 28th and run through Dec.12th during period 4 classes.  The way we run the drive is taking the total the amount of pounds collected per student in your class (the total lbs. collected divided by number of students in your class)-  We will collect, empty boxes, and tally pounds collected on Wednesday and Friday of each week during period 4 (or upon specific request- some classes like to store cans through the end of the drive).

This year the Greater San Diego Food Bank's most needed food items include:

canned meats & tuna • peanut butter • canned soups • canned fruits, vegetables & beans • spaghetti • cereal • rice • mac & cheese.

We are unable to accept: Glass jars or homemade food products

Our 2018 LJHS School goal is to bring in 2 lbs per student on campus which is close to 3,000 lbs. of food or raise $1 per LJHS student.  You can donate food online. It’s easy! Click on the Virtual Food Drive page and pay for the food items you’d like to donate using your debit/credit card. The San Diego Food Bank will receive the donation and distribute food to families in need.  If any of your students / classes would rather participate in monetary donation aspect of this drive, here is the link: http://www.fooddriveonline.org/sandiegofoodbank/LaJollaHighSchool2017

8.  La Jolla Vikings:

What a great week we have ahead of us! Homecoming is such a fun time to show your school spirit and celebrate the history and traditions of your school. Please know that as your Principal, I couldn’t be more proud of your hard work this first grading period. As I visited classrooms this past week, I observed many amazing academic conversations. I also had the chance to see students helping each other with the learning. Keep up the great work, as that teamwork is what makes our school the best in San Diego.

Go Vikings!!!

6. Did you know that it wasn’t too long ago that signs saying “No Filipinos Allowed” could be found in many parts of the United States, particularly right here in California? Well, as one of the few people here at LJHS who has a Filipino background, I’d like to let everyone in on something that most people in the country do not know: that October is Filipino History Month. Help celebrate this little celebrated month by visiting a local Filipino restaurant and/or by experiencing some of the artistic work of the following artists who have a Filipino background. So, eat some pancit and lumpia while enjoying Bruno Mars, Nicole Scherzinger, Lea Salonga, Enrique Iglesias, Lou Diamond Phillips, or Rob Schneider-------------Mr. Boyd
