RHS SCHOLARSHIP BULLETIN  

This monthly bulletin contains information on scholarships that have been sent to the school directly from the sponsor, as well as information about some university sponsored and national scholarships. It is NOT meant to be an exhaustive list. Students are encouraged to look at the websites of all colleges to which they are applying for scholarship information specific to that school, as well as national scholarship search sites. If you are interested in any scholarships listed, please use the link to the listed website or, if indicated, come to Student Services for an application.

New  Scholarship Opportunities:

COUCH OIL CARES SCHOLARSHIP - Six $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to graduating seniors across a 16 county area who plan to attend a 2-year or 4-year college. Wake County students are eligible to apply. Applications are available in Student Services, or can be downloaded here. Application deadline: June 5, 2020.

MAUDE MCGINNES EXTENSION & COMMUNITY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP - $500 awarded to a Wake County graduating senior who plans to attend a 2-year or 4-year college in North Carolina. Preference is given to students planning to major in family consumer science or related fields. Download applications here. Application deadline: March 31st.

NCACTE GUIDANCE & CAREER DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIP - $750 scholarship available to seniors who are CTE concentrators. Can be used to further study at a 2-year or 4-year college. Apply online at bit.ly/NCACTEscholar. Application deadline: April 15th.

PHEBE EMMONS SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000 scholarship sponsored by Delta Kappa Gamma, a society of key women educators, for a senior who is planning to pursue a degree in education. Applications must be submitted online, and can be accessed at https://tinyurl.com/DKGscholarship2020. Application deadline: April 1st.

RALEIGH ENGINEERS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP - The REC provides one scholarship each year to a Wake County HS Senior who has been accepted into the College of Engineering at NC State University and plans to attend the fall semester of 2020. The scholarship is valued at one semester of tuition at the in-state rate.  Download application here.  Application deadline: April 17th. 

WILLIAM GASTON ALLEN SCHOLARSHIP - Available to graduating seniors from Wake, Wayne and Brunswick Counties. Applicants must have attended the same high school for junior and senior year, have a minimum 2.0 GPA and show financial need. Interested applicants should apply online at: www.scholarshipprograms.org. Application deadline: March 30th.

WOMEN’S CLUB OF RALEIGH - The Woman's Club of Raleigh has several $1,000 scholarships to award to a Wake County Senior who will attend a 4-year college or university in North Carolina. Submit application online at https://womansclubofraleigh.org/community-service/scholarships/. Application deadline:  March 20th.

CRYSTAL CREECH SHEPHERD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - Sponsored by Chi Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. Applicants must be planning to attend a 4-year college in the fall. Download application here. Application deadline: April 10, 2020.

DELTA KAPPA GAMMA PHEBE EMMONS SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000 scholarship awarded to a senior who plans to pursue a degree in education. Complete the online application at https://tinyurl.com/DKGscholarship2020. Application deadline: April 1, 2020.

BAM AFRICAN-AMERICAN HERITAGE SCHOLARSHIP – Two $5,000 scholarships awarded. Open to high school seniors of African descent who plan to enroll at a 4-year college or university next fall and pursue study in engineering, computer science or computer information systems. Applicants should have a minimum 3.3 GPA, demonstrate leadership at school or in the community, and have a passion for technology. Applications are available at BAM Scholarships. Application deadline: April 10, 2020.

CFNC SCHOLARSHIP – Students will be entered into a drawing for a $500 scholarship by completing the Financial Basics course on the CFNC.org website.  In addition, students learn about managing money and making wise financial choices.  Go to the “Pay for College” tab at www.cfnc.org and choose “Financial Basics”.

NC BAR ASSOCIATION ESSAY CONTEST - The Environment, Energy & Natural Resources section of the NC Bar Association sponsors an essay contest for high school students. This year’s prompt asks students to  address “The Plastic Problem”.  Three winners will be awarded $250 - $750. Flyers are available in Student Services. Submission deadline: May 29, 2020.

NCCU ALUMNI ASSOCIATION RALEIGH-WAKE CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP - Scholarships of at least $1,000 will be awarded. Applicants must be a Wake County resident and senior who has been accepted to NCCU.  Minimum 3.0 unweighted GPA and 900 SAT or 17 ACT.  Download the fillable application here , or visit www.nccuraleighwake.org. NCHSAA SCHOLARSHIPS-  the NCHSAA Endowed Fund offers several scholarships to eligible student-athletes of NCHSAA member schools. For more information, and to apply, visit https://www.nchsaa.org/students-parents/nchsaa-endowed-fund-scholarships. Application deadlines vary.

NORTH CAROLINA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION -   Administers several scholarships available to Wake County students. To view scholarships and apply, visit https://www.nccommunityfoundation.org/apply/scholarships. Application deadlines vary.  

ROLESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL PTSA SCHOLARSHIP - $500 scholarship awarded to graduating senior who will attend a 2-year or 4-year college in the fall. Winners are selected based on community service, school involvement and academic improvement. Applications are available in Student Services. Application deadline: April 13, 2020.

ROTC SCHOLARSHIPS – Branches of the military offer a variety of scholarships to students through ROTC programs at many colleges and universities. Information about application requirements and deadlines can be found at the following links:

SOCIETY OF AMERICAN MILITARY ENGINEERS - Will award several scholarships (amounts vary) to students planning to pursue engineering, architectural or construction management in college. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applications are available in Student Services. Application deadline: April 18, 2020.

SOCIETY OF AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERS (SAE) SCHOLARSHIP – SAE sponsors a number of scholarships to qualified students who are interested in the study of engineering and other sciences. Both undesignated scholarships and university sponsored scholarships are available. All applicants must intend to earn a degree in engineering or a related science. Applications should be submitted online at: http://students.sae.org/scholarships/freshman/. Application deadlines vary.

UNCF STEM SCHOLARS PROGRAM - The UNCF STEM Scholars Program is an initiative designed to identify and provide scholarship and academic support for African American high school students who aspire to earn STEM degrees and to pursue careers in STEM fields. 100 “last dollar” scholarships are awarded annually. WAKE COUNTY REPUBLICAN WOMEN’S CLUB - Sponsors an essay contest for high school seniors. $1,000 awarded to the winner. Applications are available in Student Services. Application deadline: April 30, 2020.

WAKE ELECTRIC SCHOLARSHIPS - Awards one Fred M. Alford Memorial Scholarship ($2,000) and 16 Touchstone Energy Scholarships ($1,250 each). Applicants must be the child of an active Wake Electric member or live in a household served by Wake Electric, and plan to attend either a 2-year or 4-year college in North Carolina. WAKE FOREST KIWANIS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP - Three scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded to seniors graduating from Rolesville, Wake Forest, Heritage or Wakefield high schools. Scholarships can be used at either a 2-year or 4-year college. This is a need based scholarship, so applications submitted without income information included will not be considered. Other factors include GPA and extracurricular activities. Applications are available in Student Services. Application deadline: April 2, 2020.

WAKE FOREST ROTARY CLUB - One  $1,000 scholarship for senior attending a 4-year university, and one $500 scholarship for a senior attending community college or trade school.  Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Applications are available in Student Services.

WCPSS FUTURE TEACHERS PROGRAM - The Future Teachers Program is a recruitment initiative aimed at developing the district’s internal student talent. Future Teachers participants are WCPSS high school graduates who intend to pursue careers in education and who commit to teaching with us upon completion of their teacher preparation programs.  Future Teachers is not a scholarship, but does provide stipends each summer for professional development, and a job offer with WCPSS for a teaching position upon graduation from college. WSSU ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP -  Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to a Wake County graduating senior who will enter WSSU in Fall 2020. Applicants must have a minimum 2.7GPA and 850 SAT or 18 ACT score. Applications are available in Student Services or at http://www.raleighwakewssunaa.org/. Application deadline: April 1, 2020.
