What is Country Cruizin?

Every Thursday evening from early May to mid September our club, the Hyde Park & District Lions, hosts the Country Cruizin Show at the Plunkett Estate.

Our Club’s experienced “chefs” work hard to provide Cruizers and visitors nutritious street food such as hamburgers, hot dogs and sausages.

Our car show is held at the Plunkett Estate  which is located in the Woodhull region of London, Ontario. Steve Plunkett, who generously offers this fabulous venue, often attends our show.

Steve and Lion Sue are taking donations at the entrance of our car show.

Each week hundreds of vintage, classic, and sporty car enthusiasts bring their beloved cars to our show.

The drivers would love to tell you about their cars.

Hundreds of classic, vintage and unique “cars” are on display. Occasionally we have ultra modern “cars” as well.

Occasionally model boat enthusiasts  demonstrate their model boats in the pond.

Classic car owners and visitors enjoying a summer evening in what must be the best venue anywhere for a Cruizin Show.

Now you know why it’s called Cruizin.

This summer many of our shows will have themes like country, 50’s, Christmas in July etc. and of course Scouts will coordinate the music with the evenings.

Every July Santa Claus (aka Lion Rob) visits our Christmas Cruizin Show. We collect toys for the salvation Army. Everyone has a great time. Lions Terry and Heather are our reindeer.

Occasionally we will have live music. Fankie and the Fairlanes performed at our celebration of “The Music Man” , Ken, who provided us with music for 13 years.

In the summer we have Kids Corner where we have special activities for the young visitor.

Here is Kayla O’Connell at a Cruizin. She is reading to children from her book “At The Car Show”.

If the crowd is extra large some drivers park across the bridge. When we have a Car Club visiting, they often park together across the bridge.

Make it a picnic! There are many outdoor tables but most Drivers and Visitors bring their own lawn chairs.

Lion George is talented. He can cook hamburgers and discuss the next fund raiser at the same time.

At the car show we sell 50:50 raffle tickets.

At dusk we draw for a winner who gets ½ the proceeds and we give the other ½ of the proceeds to one (or more) of our favourite causes/charities.

Each week there is a “Drivers Draw”.  A driver’s name is randomly picked from the list of registered drivers and if the driver is present at the show he/she gets the “Drivers Jackpot”. Each show $25 is added to “Drivers’ Jackpot”.

Our Club is incredibly lucky to have the support of Steve Plunkett who offers a beautiful venue for our show. You will often see one or more of Steve’s Cadillacs parked in the driveway or being washed. Horses and dogs are often being exercised on the estate. Occasionally you might get a glimpse of an interesting wild animal.
