Ancient History Online- All about the cultures of major ancient civilizations, including Rome. This has excellent biographical information, including pictures.You will need a password from home. User name: walnut ; password: hills.

Oxford Classical Dictionary-All about the people and culture of ancient Greece and Rome.  You will need to get the user name and password in the WHHS Library.

Ancient History Encyclopedia-Many of the people on your list are included in this website. 

Your notes will be worth 25% of your grade, your typed Works Cited will be worth 25% of your grade, and your paper will be worth 50% of your grade. You must have a minimum of 3 pages of notes and 4 sources, with no more than 2 web sources. You may only use web sources directly linked to this project on the Library web site.  Your paper must include an introduction, information about your ancient person’s personal life and their accomplishments, and a conclusion.

Your paper must be in your own words with no quotes or in-line citations. Plagiarism is not allowed.

Requirements for the Papers:

5 Extra Credit points added onto the final project grade will be given to those students who go to the Writing Center for help with the paper for this project!

Grading will be as follows:

  1. Your hand-written notes in your own words in short phrases. (25 pts.) Your hand-written notes in bulleted

form must be on the ‘Working Bibliography’ forms from the Library and the bibliography information for the sources of the notes must be filled out completely on each form. One page of notes fills both the front and back sides of the form. You must have a minimum of 3 pages of notes. The notes will be graded as follows:

        Complete bibliographical information        6 pts.

        Legible and bulleted- no sentences!        6 pts.

        Notes labeled as to content                7 pts.

        At least 3 pages (front and back as one)        6 pts.

  1. A separate Works Cited page. (25 pts.) Your typed Works-Cited page must have a minimum of 4 sources,

with no more than 2 web sources. You may only use web sources directly linked to this project on the Library web site. This will be graded as follows:

Title of page                                2 pts.

Alphabetic order of citations                3 pts.

Indentation of lines                        3 pts.

Completeness of citations                5 pts.

Order of elements in citations                5 pts.

Punctuation                                5 pts.

Typed                                        2 pts.

  1. Typed paper. (50 pts.) Your typed paper will be graded as follows:

Accuracy and thoroughness of information about your person’s personal life & accomplishments: 26 pts.

Introduction and Conclusion (Please do not include any new information in your conclusion!)        14 pts.

Quality of the mechanics of the writing with no quotes or in-line citations                        10 pts.

Nota bene! Please be aware of the following

        -10 points for any project 2 pages or more short on notes!

        -5 points for each source below the minimum of 4 sources!

        -10 points for each quote or in-line citation!

Check Points:          Each check point is worth 20 quiz points. The entire project is equal to a full test grade.  

The signature portion at the bottom of this page is due by January 14. This is worth 50 homework points.

Your working notes will be checked in class on January 22.

The rough draft of your Works Cited will be checked January 24.

The rough draft of your paper will be checked February 4.

The notes and bibliography are due February 21, 2020. The paper is due by 11:59 pm on February 21, 2020.

Plagiarism on any part of this project will result in a grade of ‘0’ for the entire project and school administrators will be notified.
