Maker empowerment: a sensitivity to the designed dimension of objects and systems, along with the inclination and capacity to shape one’s world through building, tinkering, re/designing, or hacking.

So you want to be a MAKER Educator?

Here are a few things you can start with (no particular order)

  1. Listen to this podcast. Cult of Pedagogy Blog: Episode 96: What is the point of a MakerSpace?
  2. Browse through MAKE Magazine and see what people are making. (Copies in Library and Makerspaces)
  3. Attend a Maker Faire (nationwide, NYC September) or local Cleveland Ingenuity Festival (September)
  4. Google a combination of any of the following keywords: Makerspace, FabLab, Laser Cut, CNC, Microcontroller, MakerBot, 3D Printing, Design, Prototype, IDEO) Example: Laser Cut Lamp, CNC Desk
  5. Put a few books on your reading list- Start with Maker-Centered Learning by Edward Clapp
Additional books listed below (we may have copies on our campus)
  6. Put a few Articles and Research our your radar:

Project Zero - Maker-Centered Learning and the Development of Self

Agency By Design - Thinking and Learning in the Maker-Centered Classroom

Fablearn Fellow Resources: http://fablearn.stanford.edu/fellows/resources
