Cheer 2020-2021 Mitigation Plan                                                        

ASD supports and will follow the Municipality of Anchorage COVID-19 protocols for starting and continuing the sport of Cheer. We support the proposed guidelines Spirit Rules, which can be found through ASAA’s Covid-19 Resources page. Cheer is considered a high risk sport.

Participation:

Prior to participation, all participants must

Facility:

All practices are to be coordinated with Activity Principal

Facilities should have visual indicators of proper distancing

Hand sanitizer should be plentiful and available to all participants.

Indoor – Ensure ventilation systems operate properly and increase circulation of outdoor air. Open windows and doors when feasible

Equipment:

Prior to sharing equipment, (including poms, signs, megaphones, etc.)

Equipment may be shared, however every 14 minutes

Practices:

Indoor practices may occur with the following protocols in place

No Stunting.

When breathing hard, participants should be 10’ apart all facing the same way. All other times all individuals need to be 6’ apart.

Only one person should operate a sound system.

Participants should be appropriately spaced on the court, field, or sideline to ensure proper social distancing.

Masks must be worn.

Masks may be removed for tumbling routine; however, must be worn immediately following the tumbling routine.

Focus on individual skill development and conditioning. Limit contact (closer than 6’ for longer than 5 seconds) to no more than 30 minutes per day and 60 minutes per week.

Jewelry of any kind is prohibited except for the following: A religious medal without a chain is allowed and must be taped and worn under the uniform. A medical alert medal must be taped and may be visible.

No sharing of water bottles or snacks.

Events:

Masks must be worn.

Masks may be removed for tumbling routine; however, must be worn immediately following the tumbling routine.

Each team is responsible for its own individual towels, hand sanitizer, and a medkit.

No throwing of spirit items into the crowd (i.e., t-shirts, small balls, etc.).

Participants must be appropriately spaced on the court, field, or sideline to ensure proper social distancing, 6’ apart.  The total number of participants may need to be decreased depending on area size.  

Participants must also be distanced at least 10’ from spectators as well as (football/basketball/hockey) team.  This spacing must be clearly and visually marked.

No sharing of water bottles or snacks.

Spectators may be permitted; two tickets per student-athlete for the game/level in which the student-athlete is rostered

Per ASD recommendation, spectators may be further limited or not allowed at events
