
2025 Laboratory Assistant, Biotechnology for Science & Health Academy

General Information:
The Laboratory Assistant supports the Academic Director (AD) during the 2-week Biotechnology for Science & Health Academy. Successful Laboratory Assistants are flexible, can pivot quickly to accommodate unexpected changes and issues, and are leaders who stay both warm and focused under pressure. This is a laboratory and academic support position.
Responsibilities:
- Learning about and understand the programs to better support the student experience
- Meeting with Lab Directors and Lab Faculty prior to programs to review lab activities
- Maintaining a well-stocked lab environment
- Creating a safe and supportive academic environment for students
- Building community and belonging amongst the students and staff
- Establishing appropriate boundaries with students in compliance with the University's Protection of Minors Policy
- Reporting unsafe, inappropriate, or concerning behavior, and student conduct issues
- Enforcing University policies, procedures, and regulations to students
- Other duties as assigned.
Schedule:
- Training/Lab prep | There will be training and lab prep work in early June
- Program in Session | June 29 - July 11, 2025
Terms & Compensation
- Laboratory Assistants are designated for the Summer 2025 term with dates of employment from May 19 through August 9, 2025
- Laboratory Assistants will work approximately 20-40 hours per week to support the program.
- Employment with the University is at-will and may be terminated by Laboratory Assistants or the University at any time without notice or cause. Employment with the University should not be considered as an implied or explicit guarantee of employment or as a personal contract.
- Failure to meet the standards and expectations of the University, the School of Continuing Studies, and the Office of Summer and Special Programs, may result in termination.
- Compensation will include $21.00 per hour for up to 40 hours of work per week.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Some graduate-level medical or science education
- Experience working in a lab
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Current or graduating Georgetown student
- Institutional knowledge of Georgetown University
