Coming in October:

Our Entrepreneur Workshop series will be starting again in October.  If you are considering starting a business, this is a great way to find out lots of useful information about creating a business plan, developing an elevator speech, seeking out appropriate insurance coverage, seeking out appropriate legal coverage, applying for and securing funding, learning about SBA loans and learning about marketing techniques.  Even those who already are operating a business have attended the workshop and found it to be very helpful.  Applications are available by stopping by the library or on the library’s website.  The deadline to apply is Wednesday, September 27.  The workshops will be held on Wednesdays from 7-9 pm beginning on Wednesday, October 4.  There is reduced fee of $40 to participate thanks to funding received from former Senator Michael Nozzolio.

On October 7 at 2 pm the library will have a Magic Show with magician Michael Dedee.  Dedee will perform tricks that “fool, but do not make a fools of the audience members.”  He will also teach a few simple tricks to participants.  This is a family friendly show brought to you thanks to funding by Friends of Macedon Public Library.

On October 9 at 1 pm, Cris Johnson will be back!  His show, titled “Wacky Science,” is being used as part of the library’s efforts to encourage children to read more during the year.  The science show, presented by professional entertainer/speaker Cris Johnson, will feature music, age-appropriate humor, zany and whimsical science experiments, audience participation, and more. The show is intended for children ages 6-12 and any fun-loving adults.  This special, family friendly program is brought to you thanks to funding received from Friends of Macedon Public Library.

SEPTEMBER 2017 EVENTS

Fri. 9/1: Fun Food Friday: 3-5 pm  Teens who enjoy making fun snacks are encouraged to drop by the library to make a yummy treat.  This month, the library will provide the ice cream and various fixings to design an icecream sundae.  

Sat. 9/2 Breaking Bread: 1 pm  All community members are invited to bring an apple-themed dish to the library to share.  Participants can taste all sorts of new dishes while meeting new people.

Mon. 9/4: The library will be closed in observance of Labor Day.

Tues. 9/5: Labor Day Movie Screening: 5:45 pm Watch a movie about a spunky woman (played by Sally Field) who takes on the administration of a textile factory when she leads a movement to unionize the mill. Field won an Academy Award for her performance.  This movie is rated PG.  

Wed. 9/6: Let Us Catch You Reading!  All Day  Drop by the library and spend a few moments reading a good book in celebration of National Read a Book Day. Those who give permission, may have a picture taken and shared on social media.

Thurs. 9/7: Mahjong 2 pm   A group for beginning to advanced Mahjong players.  Play an ancient game of skill, strategy and luck.

Fri. 9/8: To Dye For  3-5 pm  Join Julia Koberlein to learn how to make cool, custom-dyed shoe laces just in time for the first week of school. Participants must bring white shoe laces.  The library will supply the dye. (age 13 and up)

Sat. 9/9: Puppy Tales  2 pm Your struggling reader may enjoy sharing a story with a non-judgmental listener.  Or your advanced reader may just want to share stories with a furry friend.  All ages are invited to read to our therapy dogs.  No registration required, just drop-in!

Mon. 9/11 Fall Dangle Earrings 6 pm  Register to make a cute pair of earrings featuring fall colors.  All tools and supplies provided free of charge by the library.  Space is limited.  Call 315-986-5932 to register.

Tues. 9/12 Tech. Tuesday Is This Fake News?  10:30 am  Do you know how to distinguish between fact and fiction?  Learn important tips and skills to help be able to separate the two.

Weds. 9/13:  Iris Folding 1 pm  Paper crafters may want to join this group to learn how to use a special folding technique to make beautiful homemade cards.  Bring pretty paper, glue, scissors and cardstock.  If you have never done iris folding before, the people in attendance will be happy to show you how it is done.  It is easy to learn and a great hobby that yields beautiful greeting cards for friends and family!

Thurs. 9/14: Friends of Macedon Public Library Book Discussion  noon  Bring your lunch and discuss the featured book. All welcome.  Call the library at 315-986-5932 for more details.

Mon. 9/18  Senior Dinner  5 pm

Mon. 9/18  Kahoot!  6 pm  Join us in this fast paced trivia game.  All you need to bring is yourself and your smartphone or tablet.  The trivia champ will win a small prize.  Teens and adults welcome.

Tues. 9/19 Tech. Tuesday: What you Need to Know: Online Safety 10:30 am   Do you know how to use the Internet safely?  Are you aware of common Internet scams that can cost people money and might even lead to identity theft?  Participants will learn how to stay safe while using the Internet.  

Tues. 9/19: Letchworth’s Portage Viaduct- New and Old  6 pm  Take an “indoor hike” with Chris and learn the history and the future of Letchworth rails and trails. This is a topic of interest for both hiking enthusiasts and railroad fans.

Wed. 9/20: How to Find a Book That is Just the Right Size for Your Child 5 pm: Attend this 30 minute presentation and learn how the library has developed a system to help you find a book that is just the right level for your Pal-Mac primary or intermediate student.  The system is so easy to use, even children will be able to quickly browse the shelves to find books that are “just right” for their reading ability.

Fri. 9/22: Sew What?  3 pm  Bring your own ½ yard of fabric to the library and the library will supply the sewing machine, scissors, and cord needed to make a handy cinch sack.  Age 13 and up.  Registration requested.

Sat. 9/23: FAMILY MAKER DAY 1:30-4 pm  Drop by the Community Room of the library with your children to have lots of fun building with Keva planks, lego, magnet tiles, Little Bits and other assorted materials.  Building helps children to test out the principles and properties of physics and engineering while having lots of fun in the process.

Mon. 9/25:Storytime 10:30 am  Children age 4-5 years can enjoy hearing stories read aloud.

Mon. 9/25: Library Board Meeting  6:30 pm  Public welcome to attend.  Those interested in becoming a Macedon Public Library Trustee are encouraged to attend and find out what happens at a library board meeting.  Must be a resident of the Town of Macedon to be a trustee.

Tues. 9/26 Tech Tuesday: Cyberbullying-What Is It and How Do I Stay Safe? 10:30 am   Find out more about cyberbullying and how you can avoid situations that avoid you becoming a bully or being on the receiving end of bully behavior.

Tues. 9/26:  Storytime 3:15 pm  Children two years of age can enjoy hearing stories read aloud.

Wed. 9/27 Movie & Activity 3-5 pm  Children can come and enjoy a movie and a fun activity.  Homeschooled children welcome to join.  Pal-Mac students must have a letter of permission turned written to Pal-Mac Intermediate school in order to be released to the library for the program.

Friday. 9/29: Teen Movie 3-5 pm:  Watch the second adventure starring a wacky group of space heroes. Rated PG-13.

Saturday, 9/30: Scrabble Scramble 2-3 pm  Play a fast paced version of scrabble that involves shaking letters up, scrambling them and then building connecting words as fast as you can!  Lots of fun for ages 10 and up.
