Self Awareness

#Introspective #InnerVoice #SelfAwareness #SelfControl #Liberty #Freedom

90% of people think they are self aware.

13% are self aware.

77% of slaves to feelings and media, believe they are free.

They think the inner voices are their own voice; wise, infallible, honest, without agendas & so they don't question it or test it. They judge others based on their actions but judge themselves based on their intentions. They frame their ways in the best possible light, but they don’t give others benefit of the doubt.

Learning to argue with your inner voice's claims, frees you to reprogram & yourself.

Self awareness unlocks self control & a purpose driven life, rather than a feelings driven or media driven life.

Thinking for yourself, protects you from other people to thinking for you.

Knowing your inner weaknesses allows you to error correct.

“In Filth It Will Be Found”

The topic you want to avoid is the one that needs the most work/focus/attention.

Most mistake this processed interpretation for raw indisputable data, so I think its critical to show these voices are interpretations and how to listen to the entire argument behind them.

Programs

What are programs?

Conscous Thinking is step by step planning and you chose to run.

Unconscous Programs are plans your brain can run with minimal input.

This is called habit instinct, monkey brain,

Unconscous Program Pros

You may conserve energy.

You may multitask, multifocus

You may skip time & boredom

You may survive as a baby

Unconscous Program Cons

        You may become exhausted

You may not be aware of mistakes

You may not have strength over habits

You may avoid work related to discovery & creation & fulfillment

In any case it is critical you learn to become aware which is being used for any given task and decide wether the mode is appropriate for each case.

Attention

You can only consciously focus on a finite amount of things for a finite time. What affects these limits are things like energy, interest, tools, strategies...

Because of these limits your brain tries to minimize what you have to focus on so you are free to focus on what you need most, and to conserve energy.

Types of Attention

Arousal: Refers to our activation level and level of alertness, whether we are tired or energized.

Focused Attention: Refers to our ability to focus attention on a stimulus.

Sustained Attention: The ability to attend to a stimulus or activity over a long period of time.

Selective Attention: The ability to attend to a specific stimulus or activity in the presence of other distracting stimuli.

Alternating Attention: The ability to change focus attention between two or more stimuli.

Divided Attention: The ability to attend different stimuli or attention at the same time.

Assembly Lines

Return to Mode

You may notice small animals return to a standing still mode to stay aware of any predators and survive, they don’t consciously think to do this it’s automatic survival mechanism, but in captivity they can loose this habit because it returns no results.

Low Power Mode

Humans also attempt to return to a mode of low energy use, and resist leaving that mode resisting mental expense. Your brain will do a lot of work to avoid doing work. By just spending a bunch of energy you will engage this optimization and acclimation effort. So anything that you repeatedly spend energy on your brain and body will try to make easier.

The most extreme example of this is twice driving home I fell asleep at the wheel and ended up home with no memory of the trip. Usually this kills people, but because I’ve mde that trip so many times and my eyes didnt close, my program was able to stay in the lane and navigate home automatically without engaging my conscious brain. This was a miracle, but even still if something had come into the scene that was unexpected it wouldnt know how to respond because it wasnt part of it’s simple program parameters. This would cause me to crash since I wasnt easily woken.

After a few years of driving you are using programs instead of conscious decisions most of the time, and if something unusual occurs your unconscious programs wake you for conscious inputs. This doesnt just happen for driving but almost everything you do every day.

Instincts

In the motives lesson you can learn more about the drives which are programs from birth that help us survive before we are mature enough to understand why we should. But once you have the mental ability you should consider the real time implications of your ideas plans and actions rather than blindly relying on the basic one size fits all program of life, love, and purpose.

Prophesy

Consider how I learned to juggle people thinking it’s about catching but its really about throwing  consistently. So take away the freedom to vary the throw by standing at the deadend of a hallway and then try to get the balls to stop touching the wall as you throw it back and forth. What this does it it allows you not to have to use mental energy to process where the ball is an catch it, instead you just throw it with a preprogramed arc and then move your hand to the preprogrammed location to catch it without thinking.

Multitasking

Consider taping your head and rubbing your tummy, this is done by programming one of the actions and then setting that to repeat then preprogramming the other and running it too. Some people struggle to do this because they instead try to focus on more than one mental action at once. Once scientists severed the spinal cord of a mouse and then rerouted the walk signal around the break and the mouse was able to walk because the program was loaded in the spine itself and the brain was just saying simply walk walk walk.

Skills

Consider how I throw my hat in my room every night when I head to bed. I try to get it on my headboard but I don’t bother to pick it up if I miss. I don’t do anything else, but my brain wants to get satisfaction and waste less energy thinking about the throw so it invents an optimized program to let me throw it with perfect accuracy after 6months.

Searching

I am terrible at finding things in a house, or noticing a new poster, or haircut. I’ve freed my conscious mind so much that I’ve prevented work from being done on anything without my permission. This has become a habit, and addicting to return to my freed state. It is useless to have an empty mouth but to fill it again.

Company

Art

Can you do art and be present with loved ones simulataniously? I struggle to do this because I become so focused in order to make great art that everything else disappears from my world. Or alternatively I’m so responsive to my family’s needs that I don’t have the required focus to calculate the arcs and colors and big picture vision.

Math

I can’t do math in public, I use so much energy modeling the people in the room that I have nothing left over for advanced abstractions or even advanced socializing. If I give a talk on stage I have no memory of the talk, my mind goes blank and autopilot takes over completely due to the huge load. The less people there are the more affordance and margin I have for conscious tasks, but being alone I can miraculously solve problems nearly instantly.

Meetings

Often I pingpong in and out of a room where a meeting is going on because I am only valuable to them when I am alone in the hallway so I go out there solve it instantly return with the answer.

Tesla said, “The mind is sharper and keener in seclusion and uninterrupted solitude. ... Originality thrives in seclusion free of outside influences beating upon us, cripple the creative mind. Be alone, that is the secret of invention; be alone, that is when ideas are born”

Exercises

You can learn your feelings are in your control by exercising them like you would lift a weight.

After you pickup a feeling and pout it down over and over you realize that it’s your arm and it’s your will.

Recall the time someone gave you a compliment from years ago that encourages you and makes you feel good about yourself. Now.

Recall the time where you were embarrassed or publicly criticised or rejected. Now

Recall the first memory and then the second. Notice your feelings change back and forth and how the more you do this neither are as controlling your hunched back, bowed head, low voice. These events are loosing their convincing ability.

More notes

Record yourself singing then listen to the recording, did you sound better in your head or in the recording?

Look at yourself in the mirror are there parts of yourself you ignore?

Do you daydream?

You hear a voice in your head?

Record a video of you and a friend having a long conversation and now watch it and compare how you thought of yourself to how you think of yourself now.

Note Apps

Note Apps, to dump your ideas so you don’t have to remember them conscously, you have 2 storage systems, active memory that takes conscious pawer to maintain, and long term memory that takes no energy but requires orginization. Notes lets you dump your active memory even before the ideas are organized.

Mindmap Apps

Mindmap Apps, to organize your ideas, clean ideas take up less mental space than messy ones.

Whiteboards

White Boards, during conversations it is difficult to stay present listening, while planning responses, remembering what branches have been convered and communicating on purpose. Take a load off by writing as you go.
