Topic 1: Q2 accomplishments
- Storage facility
- Round up on Walmart.com
- Paint Party Fundraiser brought in about $260
- Barbecue Fundraiser brought in about $1600
- Harvest House sign updated on building and added to near road.
- Camera installed in Harvest House and we reverted to locking it on a regular schedule to prevent it being emptied in one day.
- We have been approved for a $1,000 grant from Walmart!
Topic 2: Community Contributions and Partnerships
- New Beginnings in Richlands held a collection drive for us.
- We have started a partnership with Onslow County’s Youth Services division, allowing the youth in their program to receive community service hours while serving alongside our volunteers.
- July - we are able to serve two meals because the county is providing one.The bonus serving experience on July 14 will be pickup only and all plates not picked up will be delivered to Whippoorwill Campground.
- August - the county will be providing the meal and volunteers for preparing the meal through this program, saving us time and money. All we need to provide is drivers.
- We post wishlists for upcoming serving nights several weeks in advance allowing the community to help us provide the meals. This has been a huge success.
- Beauty & Co Salon Studios in Jacksonville has agreed to partner with us as a collection point. The first pick up resulted in a LARGE load.
- Posh Salon in Jacksonville is collecting feminine products for us.
- We are receiving the lost and found items from Clear View and Heritage elementary schools and Trexler Middle to start the winter coat stash and yard sale.
Topic 3: Financials
- As of June 14, we have $1767.63 in our account. Of that, $1248 is allotted to serving nights and we have $519.63 for Harvest House, storage unit rent and our upcoming Operation Christmas Stocking. This does not include the Walmart grant.
- We have $250 in Food Lion gift cards set aside for Operation Christmas Stocking as well.
- We are awaiting word on more than $20,000 in Walmart grants.
Topic 4: Upcoming fundraisers
- Still seeking sponsors for Harvest House - $125 sponsorship spots to fill in the gaps.
- June 23: Collection drive during church chicken plate fundraiser.
- July 18: Burrito Shak fundraiser night! From 6 to 9 p.m., 10% of all orders will benefit our outreach.
- Aug. 3: Yard sale fundraiser
- Aug. 7: Five Guys fundraiser. 20% of purchases that mention the fundraiser to benefit our outreach.
- Pumpkin patch: A community partner is growing pumpkins and will be offering them to the community as a you-pick patch, with all proceeds benefiting Overflow Cafe.
- Nov. 24 - Dec. 1 - Five Below in Jacksonville - 10% back
- Through the Spring and Summer: J&R Card Brigade will offer flamingo flocking for folks to surprise their loved ones with and 25% will benefit the cafe. Come October, the Halloween Boos will replace the flock. So far, we’ve put $30 in nonperishables in Harvest House through the flock’s efforts.
Topic 5: Road blocks
- We have a small volunteer pool. We need to draw in more volunteers to decrease the chance of burnout among our current hard working volunteers.
- We need to formalize the mission and priorities of Overflow Cafe.
- We need to formalize what is Overflow Cafe vs what is a City Harvest Church ministry.
- We need to formalize the partnership and rent with City Harvest Church to avoid potential miscommunications.
- Freezer space.
Topic 6: Kitchen Report by Martha Saylor
Topic 7: Update on Potential partnerships
- We have applied to the Alliance of Period Supplies and are still waiting to hear back..
- We are on the waitlist for the North Carolina Diaper Bank..
- ON HOLD - NC Food Bank - Our Food Bank partners with 501c3 non-profits and Church/Religious Organizations that operate a: Food Pantry, Soup Kitchen, Shelter, Mobile Unit/Delivery to Clients, Senior/Elderly Program, and Child Nutrition.
- The only one located within 10 miles of 28574 is Richlands Community Outreach. We need to be 1 mile away or serve on different days.
- We would need more storage, if the eligibility questionnaire is anything to judge by.
MINUTES:
- We need drivers and cleaners on serving nights.
- Serving nights have evolved to two days: one day is cleaning and desert and the other is main dishes and sides.
- We need pricing on commercial ovens.
- We need warmers and a rolling curtain.
- End donations for yard sale fundraiser on July 22.
- Per separation of church and overflow cafe: celebrate recovery and other church ministry items will be removed from the closet and Overflow freezers. The closet will belong to Overflow Cafe and only Overflow volunteers will have the code. Mr. Donnie’s Food Lion pick ups will fall under the church, not Overflow Cafe since benevolence is their jam while we focus on serving nights, Harvest House and Operation Christmas Stocking for the time being.
- Pastor Tim Cavenaugh suggested asking if Cruisin’ Education can use some of the students' drive hours to help deliver plates.
- Pastor Tim is also scheduling a motorcycle ride, $10 per bike, to benefit Overflow as well as a Celebration of Gospel event to benefit our mission.
