MFA Summer Workshop Series  Wilson College

Presented lectures highlighting various movement styles from the African diaspora. Led students through movement workshops, discussions and interdisciplinary play with lighting elements to parallel to the lectures and their own research.

A dance major required- lecture and theory course on the evolution of American dance. Students were encouraged to use historical research to inspire a creative artifact and present an oral defense of their art.

An introduction to Hip-Hop and other street dance forms taught in  parallel with West African practices. Each class incorporates both a movement and lecture component, as it is important that students understand the “why” behind the dance.

An advancement upon concepts learned in DAN233 W.African Dance Technique ll. Unpacking connections between African, hip hop and other street dance forms. Administered a week long residency with the advanced technique and repertory courses. An exploration of the cross sections of street dance and movement of the diaspora. These classes included dance majors on both the undergraduate and graduate studies levels.

The History and Culture of Hip-Hop  Dance 114, Howard Community College

This course exposed  students to the elements of Hip Hop culture, including graffiti, emceeing, deejaying, and dance forms like locking, popping and b-boying. The influence of West African culture was discussed as well as Hip Hop’s American roots, its development and history, and its influence on American and world culture.
