Do Students need a Zoom account to join a meeting?
No, they need the meeting link for your classroom meeting. They need a computer microphone to talk with you and a speaker to hear you. There’s also text chat.
Do instructors need a computer to use Zoom?
Yes, we recommend you host your meeting from a computer but it is possible to use the free Zoom app available in Apple Store or Google Store to host meetings. But these apps have less features than your computer.
Interested in student group work in Zoom - You can set up breakout rooms that allow for small group discussion:
Do you really need a Zoom Pro account? Here’s how you decide:
Zoom Free:
Zoom Pro: If you need a pro account, email IT at http://helpdesk.sbcc.edu after you have already created a Zoom account with the college. Use your Campus Pipeline ID and password to access the helpdesk request page.
Zoom mobile app: You can download the Zoom mobile app for your iOS or Android device from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store
Phone tripod - This tripod is nice because it is tall, and the phone can tilt to many angles
Phone gip - This is a good option that is small, and can grip on to poles, or uneven surfaces
Zoom Class Meeting Recordings
When you record a Zoom class meeting, stay logged into the room after your students leave. Zoom is preparing your recorded meeting and will email the link to the recorded video so you can download it to your computer. The link to the recording is in your Zoom settings for the meeting.
Next steps, upload the video to your SBCC Youtube space. Yes, that’s right. Each faculty and staff member has his/her own Youtube space. After logging into your email choose the nine little dots and scroll down until you see the Youtube icon.
