RoboCupJunior USA 2021 Competitions

Dear RoboCuppers in the USA,

Following the announcement by the RoboCup Federation, all RCJ leagues will take place online at the USA competition.

The RoboCupJunior USA will be hosting five sub-leagues:

Note: Below is the RoboCup International requirements. If you are interested in participating in the RoboCupJunior 2021 Worldwide if qualified, please follow the requirements.

Team Size:

The maximum team size is 4 members for RoboCupJunior Soccer and Rescue leagues and 5 members for OnStage leagues.

Team Member:

ALL student members must be between 14 to 19 years in order to participate in the International competition.


What to expect in the RoboCupJunior USA 2021 Competition:

Despite the remarkable challenges caused by the pandemic, RoboCupJunior will continue to strive to offer our participants another year of exciting learning and to make this RoboCupJunior season another rewarding experience.

In lieu of physical in-person competitions,  teams will compete by showcasing their robots in online submissions and interviews.  All judging processes will be conducted online and are described below.  If you think there is a good chance your team will participate, please complete our Participation Intent Form.


I) All Leagues:  

The online competition will be conducted in 2 stages:

  1. Open Round ------------------------  

Submit the following documents no later than May 16.

  1. Team Technical Paper
  2. Engineering Journal
  3. Video Presentation

        

Among all submissions that are reviewed by judges, a few top teams will be selected  for advancing to the Final Round. The actual count of these teams at Open Round will be posted on May 17th.

Please review the general guidelines about these documents and videos.

  1. Final Round ------------------------

  1. May 30th
  2. Each of the teams selected for the final round will have live presentations, and be interviewed by a panel of judges (interviewers).
  3. The number of teams advancing to the final round will be announced on May 23rd..
  4. Specific rubrics for the final round will be released by the end of April.


II) New Rescue Simulation Demo Competition:

This is a new robots simulation platform being held at the International Event only.  

  1. Important clarification: Rescue Line and Maze teams who have advanced to international  are invited to partake in its own  Simulation challenge.  
  2. This is NOT part of the Line/Maze online competition.
  3. (Update on May 4th) If you are a  Line/Maze Team and wish to also participate in the Simulation Competition, click here to see more  clarification regarding  participation.
  4. Main challenge
  1. Prior to the competition, teams will submit their code, which will be run by judges on the competition environment.
  2. This competition will be similar to a demonstration competition that took place in October 2020.
  1. Platform and rules:
  1. The Erebus / Webots platform will be used in this competition.  

  1. More details will be available at the NEW Rescue Simulation (Demonstration ).  This is a demonstration competition, meaning certificates will not be issued from the RoboCup Federation but from the Rescue Committee.

Qualified teams will be announced on the USA RoboCupJunior website.  These are the teams advancing to RoboCupJunior 2021 Worldwide. (4)

(1) All teams will be competing in the Open Round.  The number of teams participated in the Open round will be posted on May 17.   Judges will conduct a week-long review of all teams’ submitted documents and videos to select the top few teams advancing to the Final Round.  

(2)  IMPORTANT:  If your team is selected to advance to the final round,  you will be asked if your team will participate in the RoboCupJunior 2021 Worldwide if your team is qualified.

The live presentations and interview schedule will be posted on the USA RoboCupJunior website no later than May 29th.

(3) Note:  all other teams (i.e., those who did not advance to the Final) are welcome to attend the live presentations and ask the presenting teams questions.

(4) The Final Top teams invited to compete in the RoboCupJunior 2021 Worldwide will need to commit ASAP, as the team registration deadline is within one week from the announcement.
