MTYR Calendar Change 26-27: Grateful to everyone who was able to join us last Thursday for our information session.

It was requested that the track preference form be reopened for families who may not have completed it. The Track Preference form will close again Friday December 12th.

Here are highlights from the session and the multi-track calendar for 2026-27

There will be a “phased in” approach for the 26-27 school year

*Not all grade levels will have students on all 4 tracks for 26-27.

Rising 5th graders will be on Track 1 and Track 4 only. There will be 3 classes on Track 1 and 3 classes on Track 4.
Rising 4th graders will have two classes per track on Tracks 1 & 4 and one class on Track 3.
New Kindergartners, rising 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders will have two classes per track on Tracks 1, 3, & 4, and one class on Track 2.

Timeline for *Notifications for Track Assignment

November/December 2025/Early January 2026: Staff works to develop track assignments for currently enrolled students based on the “considerations” above

January 21-23 (2026): Notification to current students (rising 1st-5th grade)

January-June (2026): Notification to newly pre-enrolled students for 2026-27 (all grades)

February 9-16 (2026): Track change request period (limited ability to accommodate such requests)

*Notification will be through email and a paper copy will be sent home in Monday folders on January 26th.

Forgot your carpool tag? We have a plan for that!

Carpool numbers must be visible to staff. This is for the safety and security of your student(s).

A carpool tag verifies that the person picking up a student has permission to pick up your student(s). If a carpool number is not visible, you will need to park and pick your child/children up at the front office.

Anyone picking up students must be a parent/guardian or included on the child’s green information card. If someone else is picking up your student(s) you must call the office to inform us. They will need to come into the office and present identification.

If you forgot your carpool tag please…

pull through the line and park in the "buckle zone" (you may also park in the lot)
Come inside the school, present your ID to front office staff and request pick up for the student(s).

Office staff will check to ensure you have permission to pick up the student(s)

After this is completed, the students are called to the office.

Please contact the office if you have misplaced your tag and need a duplicate.

Lunch at the Lake

We changed our practice at the start of the school year so that up to two other students can join you & your student at the family tables. We regret that the update wasn't shared widely or in our family handbook. With this setup, there could be four people at the table if one parent/guardian comes, and five if two come.

Thanks for thinking Win-Win and hope you continue to come and enjoy lunch with our leaders.

Wake County has created a centralized resource to help residents identify available food support. At wake.gov/findfood families can access an interactive map with food pantries, neighborhood mini-pantries and free meal sites across the county. Families can set spending limits on MySchoolBucks

Set daily or weekly limits or turn off a la carte snack purchases entirely through their MySchoolBucks account. This feature gives families more control over cafeteria spending while still allowing students to purchase full meals

Dismissal: Do not line up for carpool prior to 3:15. WCPSS Staff and visitors MUST be able to leave our parking lot prior to 3:15. Cars cannot block this exit prior to 3:15.

You will be asked to move your car and rejoin the carpool line if you line up prior to 3:15.

Please leave your carpool number visible until your student is in the car.
Please do not get out of the car during loading to help with seatbelts–continue around the corner and use our buckle up zone.

Arrival: Do not line up prior to 8:15am in our parking lot. Staff need full access to the parking lot to start the day.

All students must remain in the car at all times while waiting for carpool to begin.
Students should exit the vehicle on the passenger side only.
Students who arrive after 9:15AM must be walked into the building and checked in at the front office by a parent/adult/guardian.

Carpool students needing breakfast should be dropped off by 9:00AM to ensure time to get breakfast and walk to their classroom.

Hopeful that track out gave you and your family time to practice Habit 7 Sharpen Your Saw!--Balance is BEST! Thanks to all the leaders and their families who joined us last Saturday for our campus beautification event. We pulled a LOT of weeds and enjoyed the nice weather. We are #BetterTogether!

Quarter 2 starts with students returning tomorrow October 20th

Swimmy’s Super HeroFUN RUN Friday Oct 31st. Family and friends are invited to cheer on their students.

Students, families and community members are coming together to raise money for Lake Myra Elementary School through PTA. Funds go to classrooms, activities at the school, staff appreciation, and this year our school needs to update our school wide audio system.

All children will have the opportunity to run, walk, dance, or move on October 31st with Swimmy and their classmates on the track near the playground. Guardians, parents and friends are invited to watch!

Please remember, approximately ¼ of our students across grade levels will remain on Track 4. All other students will need to be assigned to a different track.
Families will have until November 2nd to share their track preferences.

Here is a schedule for all four tracks for you to review.

Tracks 1 and 4 generally follow a calendar with four 9-week quarters, each followed by a 3-week break.
Tracks 2 and 3 also have frequent breaks, but their schedules are structured differently. Their 3-week breaks occur during the quarter rather than after it.

Track preference: Please rank your track preferences. We will do our best to accommodate your first two preferences, but cannot guarantee this.

Siblings: If you have more than one child who will be attending Lake Myra please complete the section for siblings.

Kindergarten in 26-27: If you will be registering a Kindergarten student in 26-27, please complete the Kindergarten section. You may also start the pre-registration process HERE

CARPOOL FAMILIES : Please review Carpool Expectations

Please do not begin to line up for carpool until 3:15.

Lining up before this time prevents WCPSS staff and visitors from exiting the parking lot.

Thank you for practicing Habit 4 Think Win-Win and considering other people’s wins as well as your own when using carpool. Remember, effectiveness is largely achieved through the collaborative efforts of two or more people. Win-win is a frame of mind and heart that seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions. It’s based on a paradigm that there’s plenty for everybody—that one person’s success is not achieved at the expense of others.

“Get the Scoop” Family Night THIS Thursday 9/18

Lake Myra Family Night is for all K-5th grade students and families. Parents/guardians will explore data and practice activities to use at home to help your student(s) continue to grow in math and/or reading!

Classroom sessions for parents/guardians will be from 5:00-5:45 and 6:15-7:00.

NEW this year: Reading and math sessions will be offered during both time frames at every grade level.

Free pizza will be served from 5:45-6:15.
Students will be offered an ice cream treat at the end of the event

Starting as early as preschool and kindergarten, regular attendance is essential for students gaining the academic and social skills they need to thrive. Research shows that when students are chronically absent, which means missing 10% or more of the school year (18 days over an entire school year - that's less than 2 days a month!), they are less likely to read proficiently by third grade, achieve in middle school, and graduate from high school. In addition to learning losses, students also miss out on opportunities to develop socially and gain skills in problem-solving and self-regulation, all of which are needed to grow and learn. This day celebrates when women won the right to vote and the many ways women have made a difference in history. Show your support by wearing purple on August 26—it’s the color for fairness and equality.

Student leaders can stop by the LMES library the week of August 25 to check out books about amazing women in history!

Arrival & Dismissal Reminders

Please do not park along Elk Falls or the surrounding neighborhood streets

during drop off or pick up.

This is infringing on their property as homeowners. We want to encourage a strong partnership and build supportive relationships with our neighbors!

If your student is a walker, you and/or your student are expected to WALK to and from campus, You should not park on a nearby street and walk over to campus.
Golf carts are vehicles, and must pick up and drop off using our carpool process.

Cafeteria Meals/Prices/Payment

Students are charged daily for meals.

Please ensure your student either is bringing money or has money on their account.

Contact Ms. Albino in the cafeteria if you need assistance.

Breakfast is served from 8:45 AM – 9:10 AM. The cost for breakfast is $2.00.
Check with your child’s teacher for the assigned lunch time. The cost for lunch is $3.75.

Sign up for a MySchoolBucks account to make paying for meals easy. Additional snacks and desserts are also available for purchase.

Please visit the WCPSS Free/Reduced Meals page to apply for meal benefits. The application can be found here. Applications are due ON or BEFORE September 9th, 2025 to maintain benefits from the prior school year.

This must be done each school year. Prior year benefits EXPIRE. If you did not apply or receive benefits during the previous school year your student will pay full price for school meals. Contact cnsmealbenefits@wcpss.net with any questions.

Volunteer at the Lake! There is a Volunteer Renewal Process that is quick and simple if you were a registered volunteer in the 24-25 school year. CLICK here to renew your volunteer status!

Carpool, walkers and bikes...oh my!

Dismissal: A school issued carpool tag is required to pick up a student using the carpool line.

If needed, please contact the office to request additional carpool tags.
Without a school issued carpool tag, please park and come into the main office. Identification is required to confirm authorization to pick up students.

During dismissal please keep your carpool number visible until your student is loaded into your car.

Exiting campus is a right turn only onto Elk Falls.

Please be sure to carefully read the carpool expectations and reference the map for carpooling to ensure safe and orderly arrival and dismissal.

Please do not park along Elk Falls or the surrounding neighborhood streets

during drop off or pick up.

This is infringing on their property as homeowners. We want to encourage a strong partnership and build supportive relationships with our neighbors!

If your student is a walker, you and your student are expected to WALK to and from campus, You should not park on a nearby street and walk over to campus.
Golf carts are vehicles, and must pick up and drop off using our carpool process.

Lake Myra Elementary School Families,

We are excited to celebrate the beginning of another great school year. Please review these important reminders so we can work together to ensure student and staff safety during student arrival and departure this year. These guidelines apply to all families who utilize carpool as well as families of students who walk to and from school.

Parking is not allowed on any street in Wendell Falls unless the street has painted or marked parking spaces.
Stopping in the roadway on streets adjacent to or near Lake Myra Elementary — including Elk Falls Drive and Future Islands Way — is a violation of Wendell ordinances, as this could back up traffic and/or prevent access to resident driveways.
Parents must follow established school procedures and utilize the carpool line to drop off and pick up their student(s) in a safe and responsible manner.
Review this map to ensure you follow the established carpool route.
Town of Wendell police officers will continue to patrol the area every school day to ensure a smooth flow of traffic in the morning and afternoon.

If you have not received an email with your child’s classroom/teacher assignment and a link to sign up for your 15 minute appointment with your student’s teacher(s), PLEASE call the main office as soon as possible. WCPSS transitioned to a new student information system, Infinite Campus, on July 1st and there have been some challenges.

Parent Portal in Infinite Campus. Each Tuesday you will receive an email inviting you to create a Campus Parent account until one is set up.. Please continue to check each Tuesday for this email from Infinite Campus (email will not come from WCPSS or our school)

Talking Points: Some teacher assignment information currently visible is merely a placeholder and subject to change as classroom assignments are finalized. Teachers will not begin using Talking Points until next week at the earliest.
