Raksha Bandhan
Raksha Bandhan is a hindu tradition, where the relationship of brothers and sisters is celebrated. This year Raksha Bandhan is on the 3rd of August this year, but it changes every year depending on the phase of the moon.
We celebrate Raksha Bandhan because my Dad and my Grandparents have been doing Raksha Bandhan for their whole lives.
On Rakdha Bandhan, the boys give their girl cousins and sisters presents. Then the girls feed the boys with sweets, for example a box of chocolates or homemade treats, and they also tie a rakhi on the boys wrist. A rakhi is a bracelet made of coloured string and has gems , jewels and sometimes pictures. My favourite one last year was a Harry Potter one.
One Raksha Bandhan a few years ago, my sisters gave me a candy dispenser, I loved it.
Most of the time, I get my sisters and cousins matching pajamas!
Last year I went to school with all my rakhi’s on my wrist,my friends asked me what they were and I explained to them that it is a traditional hindu bracelet.
Raksha Bandhan is one of my favourite times of the year because I have so many sisters and girl cousins which means lots of treats for me!
