2025-2026 Student Board Application
What makes a great MEF Student Board member?
Students selected for the MEF Student Board are expected to demonstrate the following qualities:
- A proven record of reliability. Students who commit to the board will be expected to attend virtual monthly meetings and complete work in-between meetings in a timely fashion;
- The ability to work with others in a group both peers and adults;
- The ability to communicate ideas verbally and in writing;
- Creative thinking and enthusiastic support for positive change in the schools;
- The ability to represent their school to the community in a highly professional manner.
MEF Student Board Requirements:
- Attend monthly Student Board meetings, generally lasting 45-60 minutes.
- Attend a 60 minute work session 4-6 times a year.
- Participate in selecting and awarding three outstanding Educators of the Year for MCPS. Nominations are blind-reviewed.
- Identify a need in the district where the Student Board can make an impact.
MEF’s Commitment to the Student Board:
- The MEF Board of Directors supports the Student Board program through helping facilitate meetings, guiding the Educator of the Year nomination and awarding process, and through the Executive Director attending Student Board meetings to help provide historical background and forward thinking vision.
- The MEF Student Board is a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, and give back to the MCPS community in a meaningful, but not time-consuming way. In a community which values volunteerism and non-profit support, this is your chance to see how you can help change the future for thousands of students, and honor some outstanding educators who have helped mold you.
