Bali Spirit Festival is a 7 day non-camping yoga and music event located at the Yayasan Bali Purnati (south of Ubud). It has a wide array of workshops and classes during the day, fantastic world music at night, and some special events in Ubud. We are no longer using the ARMA venue for nights. This year we have added an extra day to the festival! It will now be a FULL 7 days of workshops and music.
You can expect to give around 39 hours of your time (⅓ of the festival) during the festival and greater than 50 hours if you are doing a pre festival position. Most during event positions are 5.5 hours each day. There are three shift times – morning, afternoon and evening. Each Spirit team helper will be given one of these shift times to repeat daily. We will ask for your preferred shift time and role but we do not guarantee you will receive your preferences. We accept the majority of our Spirit Team Helpers between December and February, though will continue to accept volunteer applications as we often need a few last minute people in March. If you are interested, fill out the application, as this will be the first place we go when we need people.

You should receive an automatic email from firstname.lastname@example.org when you submit your application. If you don’t see it, wait a few minutes, then check your spam folder. Send us an email if you can't find it.
For those who applied before December, if we accept your application we will send you an email during December. If you need to know sooner, email SpiritTeam[AT]balispiritfestival.com
After December, we continue to review and accept people as needed and we will email you as soon as possible. Unfortunately, we will only email you if your application has been accepted; we apologize for this inconvenience. Please feel free to check in with us anytime.
No it is never too late to apply. We will start accepting applications around September each year.
Filling out the application does not guarantee you will be accepted. But it is the first place we look when we need people.
To confirm your acceptance, show your commitment, and offset related expenses, we need Spirit Team Helpers to pay a small $70 USD non-refundable impact fee online. The impact fee is reduced for Indonesian Citizens ($35 USD) and Returning Spirit Team Helpers ($50).
You can pay online using our ticketing system after you have been accepted to the team. If you don’t have access to a bank (credit/debit/atm) card please ask a friend or family for help. This must be paid online.
This fee helps to offset Spirit Team related expenses (ie. meals, shuttles, t-shirts, and more), allowing us to bring on more helpers, making our team more flexible, your jobs lighter and more enjoyable; this fee also serves as a deposit and tells us that you're committed to the team. Additionally, unlike many mainstream festivals, we have decided to not charge you a deposit of the full ticket price which incentivizes people to show up and complete all their shifts.
The impact fee will be $35 for Spirit Team Helpers that have or attain an active First Aid/CPR/AED Certification.This needs to be a certified in-person course not an online course. Please email photo/scan of your certificate as proof. We really think that everyone should have some basic first aid training and we want to support you in getting this training, not that you are going to use it at the festival.
To be eligible for the discount you must: 1) Have an active certification, 2) Be willing to join the First Aid Team --Please rate your preference for First Aid/Medical Team as “Good” or “Great” or select as your 1st or 2nd choice-- and, 3) Specifically request this discount by email prior to paying the impact fee.
You get to be a part of making this magical experience. Magical experiences are created through service and love, so are Unicorns and Raw Pie ☺
*Priority is given to paying ticket-holders when attending workshops and classes. We ask that you wait until 5 minutes before the scheduled start time before entering the workshop space. Some workshops are very popular, for those who paid the full ticket price they should be able to attend them and get their preferred seating locations. Sounds fair right?
Essentially, a Spirit Team Member will give their time for 1/3 of the festival, they will be of service either the morning, afternoon or evening shift every day. Generally speaking, Spirit Team Helpers give around 39 hours. Most shifts are 5.5 hours per day for 7 days. Some work less, some work more, some don’t work every day, and some do.
There are a small number of pre-event (and post-event) positions, these positions do not have a set maximum of hours, instead they have a minimum of 50 hours. Pre event positions are on-call starting 1-2 weeks before the festival and continue as needed until the start of the festival. You need to be available in Ubud, with a local phone number, Smart Phone with Whatsapp Number, and flexible with your time. If you're interested in this please email us when you arrive to the island.
If you are interested in helping pre-event, book your tickets to arrive early in case we need your help. Let us know in your application that you are available for this, and follow up with us by email when you arrive. These pre-event positions are generally reserved for individuals who are already in Ubud when we need them and can meet with us in person before we select them.
We appreciate you letting us know as soon as possible, we understand that life gets in the way sometimes, we are sad to hear this, and we hope everything is alright. Please let us know by email as soon as possible so we can find a replacement. Please note that the Impact Fee is non-refundable.
We have our annual Spirit Team Celebration Party on Afternoon/Evening the day after the festival (April 1st). It’s a great opportunity to connect before we all go our own ways again.
You must arrive by Ubud, Bali is March 22nd. We have a mandatory Spirit Team orientation starting early morning on March 23rd. The earliest date that you can depart is April 1st, but please stay for our Spirit Team Party that Evening.
Theoretically, if you had a morning or afternoon shift you could depart after your last shift on March 31st.
It is your responsibility to get yourself to Ubud, Bali. From the Denpasar (DPS) Airport, It takes about 1.5 hours by taxi and costs around 350,000 IDR to Ubud. There are Taxi’s available at the airport. If you have any questions about this please google it, visit our website, or post a question on the Spirit Team Facebook group.
No. You will need to find your own accommodation, which is very easy here in Bali. There are plenty of homestays, guesthouses, hotels and villas available, which can be found via all the usual online channels including booking.com and airbnb.com or, and this is cheaper, just show up in person on the street during the day. If you have any questions please google it or post a question on the Spirit Team Facebook group.
We do have a free shuttle for helpers that will pickup and drop off from different locations in central Ubud to the venue and back. If you feel comfortable handling a scooter, you can easily rent one by the day or month; this is the common way to get around. You can also hire a Taxi (car/van/scooter) quite easily and quickly, though it will cost more.
No, but we ask for your preferences and will try to match these to our available positions. There is no guarantee that your preferred positions will be given to you. We also ask for your shift time of day (Morning, Afternoon, Evening) preference and will do our best to match this.
Two weeks before the festival our ideal target. Our goal is finalize the assignments and let you know your position about two weeks before. But sometimes we are delayed a week or more. Due to the nature of this being an international festival, on the small island of Bali with limited staff, with many variables, frequent changes, and unexpected complications. Please be patient and flexible with us. If you have paid your impact fee you are confirmed, so buy your ticket, and show up. You don't really need to know your role before you arrive.
While we can’t guarantee you will be on the same team, we will give you the same shift time, if you request it in your application and provide the correct email address they used. This way you will share the same free time together. Please be provide the correct contact information they gave on their application so we can find you both.
At this time, it is not possible to pre-schedule helpers around their preferred Musicians/Workshops/Teachers. Instead, you are welcome to speak with other helpers on your team during the event about swapping one of your shifts. If you find someone to swap with, talk with us and your Team Leader and we will do our best to make that happen. We do ask you limit these requests as we can’t accommodate everyone.
