All lessons and materials are posted in google classroom.

Activities for Students:

  1. Watch Mrs. Woicik’s introduction video, and/or read assignment instructions posted in classroom
  2. Watch “Graphic Biography” video for exposure to the Frank family and their story
  3. Complete 2 commonlit assignments and answer ALL questions associated with these readings (open responses too - these should be about a paragraph). If you are being mindful of screen time, these articles can be printed. Simply click the button that says “download pdf” and then print.
  4. Brief Reflection: make some text-to-self connections between the topics in these readings and videos. In what ways can you currently relate to the situation described for the Frank family? In What ways can you not relate? Respond to “question” in google classroom.
  5. Extension: begin your personal journal. Topic suggestion: write your first entry. Introduce what your last 3 weeks have been like. What have you done to stay occupied? What challenges have you and your family faced so far? How have you dealt with those challenges?

Additional Supports:

  • Mrs. Dunlea’s students should do this commonlit story instead of the two linked above. Please answer all questions:

Science

Reminders:

Focus of the week: Identify and observe patterns of human inheritance

We  have uploaded some worksheets to Mrs. Bellucci’s Google Classrooms:

  1. A Vocabulary List for you to reference
  2. How are traits inherited? We did this as a class, now complete this with 2 family members. If you need to call a grandparent , aunt  uncle or cousin as another family member you can. They would probably be glad to hear from you!
  3. Genetics after Mendel:  You will use a pedigree to determine the role mutations play in the inheritance of disease.
  4. Investigating Dominance in Human Traits: You will design an observational study to investigate one trait in the members of your family. Then you will make a pedigree demonstrating the inheritance of that trait. You should include grandparents , aunts, uncles and cousins and get a couple of generations in there so you can make your pedigree and determine inheritance patterns. The example they give is to use attached or unattached earlobes. That will be fine to do, but can you think of others? ( raising one eyebrow, dimples, double jointedness for example)  With your pedigree , please try to include a possible genotype under each person. If you are not with your family members, feel free to create/make-up a pedigree with a trait of your choice. The goal here is to practice making pedigrees.

Additional Supports:

  1. Brain Pop link to a movie about Heredity→ watch the video and explore the site as much as you would like.  Includes vocabulary practice, worksheets, games etc.

  1. *Remember to access and use the vocabulary list uploaded in google classroom

  1. Mrs. Dunlea and Ms. Mulvehill’s students- You do not have to do the lab “Investigating Dominance in Human Traits

Feedback Plan: Please complete and submit work through google classroom.  Email us with any questions you may have.  You can also check in with us during your class specific google meeting time.  If you need additional support we can set up another meeting by appointment.

Welcome to our remote learning classroom! I am super excited for us to begin a new and much different method of learning in the digital world. Mrs. Woicik’s and Mrs. Mulvehill’s focus will be on reading The Diary of Anne Frank, so we will be building some background knowledge of the plays setting by learning about the holocaust, an event that was responsible for the mass murder of millions of innocent people over a short span. This is an extremely sensitive topic, as there are many people alive today that had their entire families murdered. Please feel free to email me with any questions at any time.

How to Build a Journal

Objective- This week students are expected to create a journal to use for planning and sketching their work.

Materials:

1.     Cardboard (Amazon box, cereal box: whatever is handy and reminiscent of cardboard)

2.     Paper- prefer computer paper, but whatever you have is fine. Minimum of 12 sheets.

3.     Glue: white glue is best but whatever will do

4.     Tape

5.     Either: large sheet of paper (18x24), wrapping paper, fabric

6.     Either: stapler or embroidery thread or fishing line and an embroidery needle

Nice to have but not needed: cutting board, awl, scissors

Step 1: Fold Each Sheet of Paper Individually in Half.

Step 2: Create 2 Packets of paper so that each sheet nests into the other

Step 3: Take one packet of paper and open your packet. With your awl if you have one or any sharp object make 2 holes as shown below OR staple the packet as shown in image below and advance to step 6.

Step 4: Thread your needle with an arm’s length of thread or fishing line.

Step 5: Sew binding as shown below and tie a knot on the ‘spine’ of your packet.

Step 6: Repeat steps 3-5 on the other packet of paper.

Step 7: Cut your cardboard to be slightly larger than your paper packets.

Step 8: Place both pieces of chipboard on your book cover evenly spaced with 1 inch in between them

Step 9: TIGHTLY fold each corner creating right angles, taking care to fold right up to the chipboard on all 4 corners

Step 10: Fold over the sides and tops (like wrapping a gift)

Step 11: Attach tape as shown.

Step 12: Using tacky glue, attach your signatures with string side (or staple side) in the binding

YOU DID IT! YOU HAVE A JOURNAL! Decorate your cover any way you please or leave as is.

Create a Grammy Award

On my website, you’ll find this assignment posted with details on how to complete it. You’ll find a Google doc with the instructions as well as an example. I’ll attach the Google doc here as well: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1642QI1j91faoNtl6TrM4OLlxt90D7IUEjKVucr55gSk/edit?usp=sharing

Follow these steps:

  1. Read through the whole Google doc.
  2. Reflect on the Grammy winners from this past year. If you see a song you don’t recognize or are curious about, check it out on YouTube.
  3. Design your own Grammy Award -pick an award that multiple people or songs could be nominated for. It can be very specific or it could be broad. Reference my example provided in the Google doc.
  4. Choose 5-10 potential nominees (5-10 people or songs that could possibly win this award you’ve created).
  5. Pick one final winner and write 2-3 sentences justifying why this is the winner.

You can complete this assignment written down on paper, in your own Google doc or in a video response where you share your award, nominees and winner. Once you have completed the assignment, turn it in with one of the following ways:

With a Google doc -share it with sharney@attleborops.net

Written down on paper -take a picture and email it to sharney@attleborops.net

In a video response -email the video to sharney@attleborops.net
