Dear future media student,

I am writing to you to tell you about what you will be doing in media studies in year 12 and what experiences you will have.

Firstly let me start off and tell you one thing, when you start your blog posts, make sure you keep up because if you don’t it will spiral out of control believe me. Aside from that however media can be great fun and can be very rewarding. If you work hard and listen carefully you can create some great pieces of work that you can look back on and be proud of, so although it can be hard work it can also be great at the same time.

At first you start to learn the basics of media and don’t worry you can have no knowledge at the start and jump straight in and start learning. You learn about the media ecology, mise en scene and the blumler and katz theory and yes that really is the name of a media theory. Soon after you get to research and get ready to create your very own music magazine, well not a whole magazine but you do create a front cover, a double page spread article, a contents page and you get to throw in some genre specific adverts as well. For the music magazine project you get the chance to learn key skills with cameras, editing software and even organisation and team working skills, so you do learn lots. You get to do your very own photo shoots in a studio and on a location shoot which is a really fun day off… I mean day out.

All in all, media studies has been great so far even with the heavy workload and it should be a great choice for you. I hope to see you in the media rooms next year.

Yours sincerely

Edward Jones
