Technical Packages for the NLGames are developed by the Provincial Sport Organization governing each respective sport. 3.        ELIGIBILITY

As of June 30, 2020 it is mandatory for all competitors to be registered with the Newfoundland and Labrador Ball Hockey Association and meet ONE (1) of the following:

All athletes must be in compliance with regulations governing regional eligibility as per NLGames Policy in Section 16 of this Technical Package.


4.        AGE CLASSIFICATION

Male: born in 2006, 2007

Female: born in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005


5.        PARTICIPANTS PER REGION

5.1        ATHLETES

Female Team

17 athletes

Minimum team size 15 athletes. Teams must have a full roster in order to compete in the NLGames.

Male Team

17 athletes

5.2        COACHING / MANAGERIAL STAFF

Female Team

2 coaches and 1 manager, 2 of whom must be female.

Male Team

2 coaches and 1 manager, 2 of whom must be male.


6.   STAFF SELECTION

All coaches and managers must be at least 19 years old as of August 15, 2020. The staff for the regional team will be selected by the NLBHA from an application process.

9.        REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Each regional team must be registered with the Host by July 31, 2020 through an online registration system that will be provided by the Host.


10.        GAMES-TIME MEETINGS

One coach or staff representative from each region and each sport is required to attend the following meetings in the Host region at the commencement of the NLGames:

  1. Coach / Manager General Meeting - date, time and location to be confirmed

Chaired by SportNL and including brief presentations from the Host Committee - will cover logistical information on transportation, accommodations, food services, entertainment, venues, etc.

  1. Sport Technical Meeting - date, time and location to be confirmed

Chaired by the Technical Chair of your sport - will cover sport-specific technical information for your competition.


11.        SANCTION

This competition is sanctioned by the Newfoundland and Labrador Ball Hockey Association (NLBHA).  The rules for this competition will be governed by NLBHA and the Canadian Ball Hockey Association (CBHA).


12.        SCHEDULE

Final schedules will be posted on www.nlgames.ca in early August after regional teams are selected and registration is completed.

14.        MEDALS

Will be presented to each individual team member of the first, second and third place finishers.


15.        TECHNICAL INFORMATION

15.1  Competition Format

The following format will be reconfigured to fit into the available 2.5 day time frame. Two division round robin with cross overs to determine final placings.  1st place in  Division 1 will play 2nd place in  Division 2 and 1st place in Division 2 will play 2nd place in Division 1.  Winners advance to play for Gold and the “non-winners” will play off for Bronze. Placing cross-overs might be included, pending schedule.  For placing games only, if tied after regulation time, a shootout will determine the winner.

Two periods, 15 minute stop time, brief intermission between periods.  Overtime will only apply to medal games.  Overtime will consist of sudden death.

The Games shall be played in the “NON CONTACT” and “NON TOUCH” (icing) flooring format.

If one team is ahead by 7 goals, after one period or at any time during the second period, the game will be considered completed.

Tie Breaking Procedures:

1. most wins

2. record between the teams tied

3. +/- from round robin games between teams tied

4. +/- from all round robin games

5. total goals scored in round robin games between teams tied

6. total goals scored in all round robin games

7. least penalty minutes in all preliminary round robin games between teams tied

8. least penalty minutes in all preliminary round robin games

Note: For +/- purposes, only a maximum goal differential of seven can be used for any one game.

FAIR PLAY: The Provincial Ball Hockey Association encourages all coaches to provide all participants with equal opportunity to participate in Games.

15.2  Compulsory Equipment

No jewelry will be permitted on the field of play unless medic alert identification.
