DIVISION 2 LUNCHEON 4/7/2014
Hosted by: The Belle Lago Reserve Team
Location: The Grandezza Club House in Estero
Our Belle Lago Reserve team chose the club house at Grandezza, for our 7th annual end-of-season luncheon. As you drive into Grandezza you see beautiful, healthy, well cared for shrubs, and large groupings of blossoming flowers. As you reach the rotary you see the club house up on the hill. You can tell it’s going to be lovely, and it is.
As our players entered they were greeted by Carol Gehllhaus and Angela Walts of BLR. After greeting the players, Carol and Angela checked off the player’s names and handed out their food choice slips.
After the last player arrived, Angela Neagle, captain of BLR, welcomed our guests which started off our proceedings.
This year’s theme was a “grab and go”. Each player who attended the luncheon went home with a goody bag, or a certificate, before leaving the luncheon.
Each “grab and go” included a “BONER LEAGUE TENNIS” Pen to remember the league.
Mary Ellen (a division 1 player) is stepping down as our director after 2 years of service.
Carol Mayer, captain of PS, thanked Mary Ellen with a gift from all the players in Division 2 (a crystal tennis trophy engraved with Mary Ellen’s name).
Not only did Belle Lago Reserve find a lovely location for our luncheon, they presented all attending the luncheon with towels, to which they added embroidered tennis rackets. With the help of Linda Golden, a BLR member, they designed a centerpiece using the towels. They also cut up tennis balls and added candy! They donated 17 gift certificates; many were paid for by a player. It’s my understanding Chris Dugan, Carol Gehllhaus, and Angela Walts were the BLR members who negotiated with Grandezza for our luncheon.
Centerpiece
The Belle Lago Reserve team received their hostess gifts. First each player of the team received a tennis ball shaped name tag. The team received a case of balls, which was donated to our luncheon by a member of our division.
We thank the Belle Lago Reserve for all they did to host this luncheon.
We also thank, the Estero Country Club’s Tennis and Golf shop, Tennis R Us, Carol Mayer (PS), Carole Casavant (CP), Anne Smith (ECC), Mary Ellen, and anonymous for other contributions which generated our “grab and go” theme this season.

Angela Neagle was presented with a gift as backup-scorekeeper. She speeded away before I could get a picture.
We had two captains stepping down, Anne Smith of the Estero Country Club, and Janet Cicon of Shadow Wood (left to right) below.
Anne Smith is one of our “octogenarians”. Anne is a retired business school and music teacher, who has captained multiple teams over the past 30+ years. She presently helps run a summer round robin which is made up of the following communities: Breckenridge, the Estero Country Club, The Forest, and the Lexington Country Club.
Janet Cicon has co-captained the Shadow Wood Team for the past five years. How time flies, it seems like yesterday when Shadow Wood joined the league. Janet is a retired German teacher (wow). She has always been polite, punctual, and precise with her reporting and communications for her team.
Both ladies will remain as players on their teams.
1st Place Team Citrus Park 2014
Citrus Park (below) received a glass trophy and each player a 1st place medallion.
2nd Place Team Village Walk 2014
Village Walk (below) received a glass trophy and each player a 2nd place medallion.
3rd Place Team Shadow Wood 2014

Honorary Mention was earned by Carol Mayer and her team for coming in 4th place after finishing 8th place last season. They are our most improved team this season.
Carol Mayer, captain of Pelican Sound.
It’s been a very nice season. Mary Ellen and I were fortunate to have been surrounded by so many wonderful and fun ladies. We both thank you for the pleasure you brought into our lives.
I personally have enjoyed Mary Ellen and I’m grateful to know her. I wish her the very best in her new adventures.
As for me, I’m looking forward to seeing each of you next season!!
This sums it up!
Have a great summer!
