THE LONESOME WEST SUMMARY:
Valene and Coleman, two brothers living alone in their father’s house he dies in a shotgun “accident,” find it impossible to exist without the most massive and violent disputes over the most mundane topics. Only Father Welsh, the local priest, is prepared to try to reconcile the two before their petty squabbles spiral into vicious and bloody carnage.
THE LONESOME WEST ROLES:
NOTE: Irish dialect required for all roles.
FATHER WELSH (30’s) - A young priest who is new to the parish in Leenane, Galway. An alcoholic who tries to mediate between the two feuding brothers, but he is experiencing a crisis of faith of his own. Commits suicide.
COLEMAN CONNOR (late 30’s-mid 40’s) - He shot his own father while Valene watched. Gave his share of the property to his brother in exchange for his statement that it was accidental (was it?) He has no love prospects and is in constant conflict with his brother Valene.
VALENE CONNOR (40s) - Watched his brother shoot their father. Stated that it was an accident in exchange for receiving the inheritance, which he flaunts regularaly. Territorial, neurotic, argumentative and cheap- collector of religious figurines, and fights with his brother on a regular basis.
GIRLEEN KELLEHER (18-20 but looks younger) - Tough exterior and a rich sense of humor mask an emotional internal life of someone who longs for love. Sells her fathers poteen, and swears like a sailor. Has a crush on the local priest.
