Play, Possession, Position. These are the three things you have control over. How hard you play, How you keep possession, What is your position. For this group of girls, NUU soccer is the top priority. Players may be involved in other activities. I value possession of the ball, we attack even better when we are organized and the girls know what position they are supposed to be in. Trusting teammates allows us to be creative while unbalancing the defense. Development isn’t just about individual skills it is also about how and where to pass.

Additional Notes from the coach:
Team Focus & Commitment
The NUU 14G Futures is a development-focused team where growth, effort, and teamwork take priority over everything else. We will strive to be a competitive team, but will remain committed to development. Our year-round training schedule reflects this commitment, with twice-weekly practices from June to October and April to May, as well as once-weekly indoor sessions during the winter months of November to March. We may also incorporate specialty sessions with our Director of Coaching or NUU staff to sharpen individual and team skills. The players I’m looking for are the ones who show up ready to work, who are committed, focused, engaged, and eager to learn.
We train around three key ideas: play, possession, and position. These are the things players can control, and mastering them gives our team a foundation for success. I emphasize possession because it allows us to play with purpose. Being organized, understanding positioning, and trusting one another leads to smarter, more creative soccer. Development is not just about personal skill. It is about understanding when and where to pass, and recognizing the role each player has in creating scoring opportunities and breaking down defenses.
Equally important is how we treat one another. Every girl on this team should feel like she is part of a sisterhood, supported, included, and valued. We may come from different backgrounds, but on this field, we grow together. That bond fuels our teamwork and gives us the strength to push through tough matches. More than that, it helps build the kind of confidence and connection that girls can carry into every part of their lives.
Field Location
As a state-level team, the NUU 14G Futures includes players from across the valley. Our home field will be at Cedar Ridge Elementary School, but I’m working to balance travel by rotating practices between the north and south ends. I expect we’ll use both Cedar Ridge and Nibley Elementary School fields throughout the season. The final practice schedule will be shared once team registration is complete.
Attendance
I understand that many players are involved in other activities, and life can be unpredictable. Missing an occasional practice or game is not punished, but consistent attendance is expected. I track attendance at every session and pay attention to patterns. If a player begins falling behind or regularly misses practices, we may need to reassess their placement. Being a good teammate means showing up for your team. Dependability and reliability are key traits we look for in every Futures player.
Tournaments
The NUU 14G Futures will compete in two summer tournaments. One of these will be the Cache Valley Cup, scheduled for July 9–12, 2025. The second tournament will be selected by the team after registration is complete. I’m also planning to enter the team in a winter tournament in St. George, with final details to be determined as we get closer to January or February.
If you ever have any questions, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can contact me via Ollie, or directly via text message: (435) 757-6672.
Thank you,
Coach Drew

What makes NUU unique at the younger ages
NUU stands out for younger players by prioritizing individual growth. We manage all players as a group, or what we call a “pool”, where multiple coaches are taught to be caretakers and player developers as they implement the NUU curriculum under the direction of professional Directors. The players also have chances to join extra training, tournaments, camps, and indoor leagues, benefiting from various coaches and specialized guidance. This approach ensures that every player can engage with soccer as much or as little as they choose, fostering a community spirit and a deep love for the sport within a UNITED family environment. At NUU, both casual and ambitious players can enjoy soccer at their own pace, with the club offering a variety of training environments tailored to individual needs. Soccer is inherently competitive, and our club ensures that programs, curriculums, and leadership are aligned to provide the best learning environment for each player. By encouraging player movement within familiar settings, individuals can form connections with hundreds of peers THEIR AGE, fostering a sense of belonging to a large family that collaborates to enhance everyone's experience. This is the essence of NUU's family approach, embodying the proverb, "It takes a village to raise a child."

Players at this age can register for NUU anytime, with team placements occurring after June registrations. Coaches will then form teams and training groups, followed by a parent meeting to discuss placements. We welcome parents to express any concerns about their child’s placement before rosters are finalized. Our goal is to create balanced teams and keep training and play as local as possible for convenience.

Additional Notes from the coach:
Tyler Grange
Tyler discovered a passion for soccer at the ripe-old age of 5. He has been all-in ever since, both on and off the field. As he transitioned into coaching, he quickly discovered a passion for training other aspiring players to learn to love the game the way he does. He spent several years directing NUUs Destination Soccer program for kids entering the soccer arena and has enjoyed coaching various teams as well. His current focus is on youth development.
Tyler’s philosophy revolves around the principles of play, possession, and position. Players can control how hard they play, how they keep possession, and what position they are in. He values possession of the ball because the team attacks more effectively when they are organized and the players understand their roles. Trusting teammates allows the team to be creative while unbalancing the defense. Development is not just about individual skills; it’s also about how and where to pass.
