SHABBAT

The Sign of The Covenant

WHEN: FRIDAY NIGHT AT SUNSET TO SATURDAY NIGHT SUNSET

DURATION: 24 HOUR PERIOD

SHABBAT: IS THE CORNERSTONE OF ALL THE MOEDIM

(IN HEBREW MOEDIM MEANS: HOLY TIMES / SACRED ASSEMBLIES)

Exodus 31:12-13

YHVH (GOD) said to Moshe, “Tell the people of Isra’el (ISRAELITES), ‘You are to observe MY Shabbats (THEY BELONG TO YHVH (GOD)); for this is a sign (OF THE COVENANT) between me and you through all your generations (FOREVER); so that you will know that I am YHVH (GOD), who sets you apart (HOLY) for me.

*KEY / FOUNDATIONAL UNDERSTANDING: The 10 (TEN) COMMANDMENTS, known to an Israelite as the TEN WORDS, are listed Twice in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5. One of the reasons this is mentioned twice in the Torah is to establish Deuteronomy 19:15, which meets the requirement of SENE EDIM (TWO (2) Witnesses) needed to convict a person of any offense or sin. No Scripture Dissolves, Abolishes, Replaces, or Removes ANY of the 10 Commandments; it just does not exist. The foundation of ALL of the MOEDIM (Holy Times) is the 4th Commandment. Without it, you cannot perform or observe any of the other MOEDIM (Holy Times). Listed below are both sets of the TEN WORDS. Additionally, we have listed some of the regulations scattered throughout the Torah and Scriptures, which give an overview of some of the requirements that are necessary to be mindful of so that you do not desecrate the MOED (HOLY TIME) and make it ordinary or common.

We invite you to come to learn about the ONE TRUE GOD and His Perspective on what is Right (Righteousness) and what leads to Life:

EXODUS 20 (1st Time Listed in the Torah)

And God spoke all these words:

#1st  COMMANDMENT “I am YHVH your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before Me.

#2nd COMMANDMENT You shall not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens above, on the earth beneath, or in the waters below xj. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, I YHVH your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on their children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing loving devotion to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments.

#3rd COMMANDMENT You shall not take the name YHVH your God in vain, for YHVH will not leave anyone unpunished who takes His name in vain.

#4th COMMANDMENT Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to YHVH your God, on which you must not do any work—neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant or livestock, nor the foreigner within your gates. For in six days the YHVH made the heavens and the earth and the sea and all that is in them, but on the seventh day He rested. Therefore YHVH blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.

#5th COMMANDMENT Honor your father and mother, so that your days may be long in the land that YHVH your God is giving you.

#6th COMMANDMENT You shall not murder.

#7th COMMANDMENT You shall not commit adultery.

#8th COMMANDMENT You shall not steal.

#9th COMMANDMENT You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

#10th COMMANDMENT You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, or his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.``

DEUTERONOMY 5

(2nd Time Listed in the Torah)

The Ten Commandments

At that time I was standing between YHVH and you to declare to you the Word of the YHVH, because you were afraid of the fire and would not go up the mountain. And He said:

#1st COMMANDMENT “I am YHVH your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before Me.

#2nd COMMANDMENT You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in the heavens above, on the earth beneath, or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, YHVH your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on their children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing loving devotion to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments.

#3rd COMMANDMENT You shall not take the name of YHVH your God in vain, for YHVH will not leave anyone unpunished who takes His name in vain.

#4th COMMANDMENT Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as YHVH your God has commanded you. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to YHVH your God, on which you must not do any work—neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox or donkey or any of your livestock, nor the foreigner within your gates, so that your manservant and maidservant may rest as you do. Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and that YHVH your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. That is why YHVH your God has commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.

#5th COMMANDMENT Honor your father and your mother, as YHVH your God has commanded you, so that your days may be long and that it may go well with you in the land that YHVH your God is giving you.

#6th COMMANDMENT You shall not murder.

#7th COMMANDMENT You shall not commit adultery.

#8th COMMANDMENT You shall not steal.

#9th COMMANDMENT You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

#10th COMMANDMENT You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house or field, or his manservant or maidservant, or his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

**BELOW ARE LISTED SOME NOT ALL OF THE REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO KEEP IN MIND, SO YOU DO NOT DESECRATE THE MOED (HOLY TIME) AND MAKE IT ORDINARY OR COMMON.

***SOME NOT ALL OF THE TORAH AND SCRIPTURE REFERENCES

Exodus 35:3

"You shall not kindle a fire in any of your dwellings on the sabbath day."

Exodus 16:23

He told them, "This is what YHVH has said: 'Tomorrow is a day of solemn rest, a Holy Sabbath to YHVH. So bake what you want to bake, and boil what you want to boil. Then set aside whatever remains and keep it until morning.'"

Exodus 35:1

Then Moses assembled the whole congregation of Israel and said to them, “These are the things that YHVH has commanded you to do: For six days work shall be done, but on the seventh day you are to have a holy Sabbath of complete rest to YHVH. Anyone who does work on that day must be put to death. Do not light a fire in any of your dwellings on the Sabbath day.”

Jeremiah 17:20-25  (You must not carry a load out of your houses or do any work on the Sabbath day, but you must keep the Sabbath day Holy)

Say to them, ‘Hear the word of the YHVH, O kings of Yahudah, all the people of Yahudah and Yerushalayim who enter through these gates. This is what YHVH says: Take heed for yourselves; do not carry a load or bring it through the gates of Yerushalayim on the Sabbath day. You must not carry a load out of your houses or do any work on the Sabbath day, but you must keep the Sabbath day Holy, just as I commanded your forefathers. Yet they would not listen or incline their ear, but they stiffened their necks and would not listen or receive My discipline.  If, however, you listen carefully to Me, says the LORD, and bring no load through the gates of this city on the Sabbath day, and keep the Sabbath day holy, and do no work on it, then kings and princes will enter through the gates of this city.

Isaiah 56 (Shabbat is for everyone who chooses to Honor YHVH)

This is what the YHVH says:

“Maintain justice and do what is right, for My salvation is coming soon, and My righteousness will be revealed. Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without profaning it and keeps his hand from doing any evil.” Let no foreigner who has joined himself to YHVH say, “YHVH will utterly exclude  me from His people.” And let the eunuch not say, “I am but a dry tree.”

For this is what YHVH says:

To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths, who choose what pleases Me and hold fast to My covenant— I will give them, in My house and within My walls, a memorial and a name better than that of sons and daughters. I will give them an everlasting name that will not be cut off.

And the foreigners who join themselves to YHVH to minister to Him, to love the name of YHVH, and to be His servants— all who keep the Sabbath without profaning it and who hold fast to My covenant—

I will bring them to My holy mountain and make them joyful in My house of prayer.

Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on My altar, for My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations.”

Thus declares YHVH the GOD, who gathers the dispersed people of Israel: “I will gather to them still others besides those already gathered.”

Isaiah 58 (NO Idle Talk and Stay Home/No travel/or Seek your own way)

YHVH will always guide you; He will satisfy you in a sun-scorched land and strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins; you will restore the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of the Breach, Restorer of the Streets of Dwelling.

If you turn your foot from breaking the Sabbath, from doing as you please on My Holy Day, if you call the Sabbath a delight, and YHVH’s Holy Day honorable,

if you honor it by not going your own way or seeking your own pleasure or speaking idle words,

then you will delight yourself in YHVH, and I will make you ride on the heights of the land and feed you with the heritage of your father Jacob.”

For the mouth of YHVH has spoken.

Nehemiah 10:31 (No buying or Selling)

“We also promise that if the people of the land should bring any merchandise or grain to be sold on the Sabbath or on any other holy day, we will refuse to buy it. Every seventh year we will let our land rest, and we will cancel all debts owed to us.

Nehemiah 13:3-15 (No buying or Selling)

In those days I saw people in Judah treading wine-presses on the Sabbath and bringing in grain and loading it on donkeys, along with wine, grapes, and figs. All kinds of goods were being brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day. So I warned them against selling food on that day.  Additionally, men of Tyre who lived there were importing fish and all kinds of merchandise and selling them on the Sabbath to the people of Judah in Jerusalem.

Then I rebuked the nobles of Judah and asked, “What is this evil you are doing—profaning the Sabbath day? Did not your forefathers do the same things, so that our God brought all this disaster on us and on this city? And now you are rekindling His wrath against Israel by profaning the Sabbath!”

When the evening shadows began to fall on the gates of Jerusalem, just before the Sabbath, I ordered that the gates be shut and not opened until after the Sabbath. I posted some of my servants at the gates so that no load could enter on the Sabbath day.

Once or twice, the merchants and those who sell all kinds of goods camped outside Jerusalem,  but I warned them, “Why are you camping in front of the wall? If you do it again, I will lay hands on you.” From that time on, they did not return on the Sabbath. Then I instructed the Levites to purify themselves and guard the gates in order to keep the Sabbath day holy.

Remember me for this as well, O my God, and show me mercy according to Your abundant loving devotion.
