Number One Question:  When can we jump in?

What is the new Sandusky Aquatic Center?

The Sandusky Aquatic Center offers an opportunity to transform the current single pool at Sandusky High School into a larger aquatic center serving both students and community residents throughout Erie County.  Our top three goals are to:

What does Community Access mean?

“Community” is defined as the general public, without restriction related to residency.  “Access” refers to inclusive programming and open swim opportunities for individuals of all ages, all abilities, and all income levels, at times that are convenient for participants.

What will the Sandusky Aquatic Center feature?

Will the Sandusky Aquatic Center be open to the public?

Yes, the Sandusky Aquatic Center has been designed to accommodate both school and community use. A schedule of community programs will be developed around the times when students are not using the pools. The schedule will be communicated to the public, and swimmers will be asked to register in advance so that the district can ensure adequate staffing is available.

Will community access programs be offered free of charge?

A fee-based structure that is affordable for all community members who use the pool will likely be implemented once the pool opens. This minimal fee will help offset additional costs associated with community-based programs and monthly maintenance.

Where will the Sandusky Aquatic Center be located?

The Aquatic Center will be built behind Sandusky High School with the entrance near the existing Athletic Entrance and planetarium.

Who is designing the Aquatic Center?

ThenDesignArchitecture and Water Technology, Inc are designing the facility.

When will the Sandusky Aquatic Center open?

Sitework for the project has begun and is expected to be completed by December of 2024.

During construction, will the entrances for Athletic events, the Planetarium, and the Cultural Center remain open?

During construction, entrances may be adjusted slightly depending on the scope of work at the time. Any changes in entrances will be marked and communicated with all parties and the larger community.

Will parking be limited in the high school parking lot during construction?

Yes, parking in the rear parking lot of Sandusky High School will be adjusted during construction. Changes in parking availability and traffic flow will be communicated throughout the project. The school district will identify temporary parking as close as possible to the high school entrances for larger events. All parking and traffic information for this project will be available on the district website.
