WEDNESDAYS: 7-9 pm Entrepreneur Workshop Series: The workshop is offered by SCORE and Macedon Public Library. Participants will learn from current and retired professionals about a variety of topics including: legal issues, insurance needs, marketing tips, business plan creation, available resources through local libraries, securing an SBA loan, securing a loan from a bank, and budgeting. THURSDAYS: 6:30-7:30 pm Drop in for Genealogy with Patricia Stevens-Brate Receive assistance whether you are getting started or trying to advance further. Find out about the free resources available to you at the library, such as ancestry.com access.
10/1 Sun: 2 pm Is Star Trek's transporter in our future? Recently Chinese scientists have used a trick of quantum mechanics to teleport an object between Earth and space. Is it only a matter of time before Scotty will be able to beam us up, or is there something about quantum teleportation that makes it impossible? Professor Ed Hach will talk about the strange properties of quantum physics, and how a transporter is only the beginning of the story. Join us at the Twisted Rail for this fun science presentation!

10/2 Mon: 1 pm Civil War Re-Enactment with Laurie Pellittieri and Pat Smith Join us to relive the 1860’s via an amazing re-enactment experience in the Community Room at the library. You need not be a history buff to thoroughly enjoy this exciting and interesting presentation!
10/3 Tues: 6-8 pm Visual Journaling Adults and children age 10 and up can join this group to creatively alter a book into a journal that expresses their thoughts and emotions. New members can bring an old book of their own or purchase one from the library’s book sale. A wide variety of art supplies and tools will be provided. Participants may also elect to bring some of their own favorite creative tools and supplies. Call 315-986-5932 to register for this program.
10/3 Tues: 7 pm Fall Spice Class Just in time for autumn, Karen and Linda Brake, proprietors of Mrs. Brakes Spices, Etc. in Farmington, will do a presentation on what spices are the best blend to complement apple pie and apple cake. They will also share delicious tips for using these spices in a variety of other ways. Participants will create two yummy make and take samples to bring home to use in their own kitchens. Fri. 10/6: 3-5 pm Fun Food Friday Teens who enjoy making fun snacks are encouraged to drop by the library to make a yummy treat. This month, the library will provide the ice cream and various fixings to design an icecream sundae. Call 315-986-5932 to register for this program.
10/7 Sat: 2 pm Family Magic Show with Mike DeDee Mike DeDee, member of the Academy of Magical Arts, believes magic is about creating a truly memorable and enjoyable performance that fools, but does not make a fool out of, the spectator. DeDee will perform his magic at the library and looks forward to teaching audience members a few simple tricks. All ages will be amazed by his skills and enjoy his engaging presentation. 10/9 Mon: 1 pm Wacky Science with Cris Johnson Cris Johnson will get kids excited about science with mind boggling experiments using everyday objects. Elementary school aged children will explore the world of science as the scientific process is demonstrated in a step-by-step, fun, engaging way. This program makes the Scientific Method easy to understand and remember. This is the only show to ever win Dow Chemical’s Touch-Tech Award for excellence in hands-on science education! 10/9 Mon. 6 pm: Black Bell Earrings Keep evil spirits far away with these black, dangling bell earrings perfect for the Halloween season. There is no fee to participate, but registration is required as supplies are limited.
10/10 Tues: 6:30 pm Lighthouses and Lobsters: A Week Downeast The Downeast and Acadia region of Maine offers the delicacy craved by many and fished by a hardy few. More than one-third of the state’s lighthouses dot the coastline here. Mount Desert Island is home to the only national park in New England. You can cruise the harbors watching for wildlife, hike rugged trails or gradually sloped carriage roads, or drive the 27-mile Park Loop Road and be awed by the setting sun on the top of Cadillac Mountain. Explore the beauty and rich history of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park with Lisa Wemett and Terry Mulee as your travel guides . Participants will also receive travel literature from the Bar Harbor and Acadia visitors’ bureaus.

10/14 Sat: 2 pm Puppy Tales Your struggling reader may enjoy sharing a story with a non-judgmental listener. Or your advanced reader may just want to share stories with a furry friend. All ages are invited to read to our therapy dogs. No registration required, just drop-in!
10/14 Sat: 11 am-5 pm Friends of Macedon Public Library Fundraiser @ Barnes and Noble Bookstore in Pittsford If you like to purchase books, music, toys or coffee at B&N for yourself, friends and family, consider marking down this date. If you let the B&N cashier know you want the purchase to count toward the fundraising event, a percentage of the profit will be donated to Friends of Macedon Public Library. 10/17 Tues: 10:30 am Tech Tuesday: Learn Google Drive This basic class will show participants how to use Google Drive to create and save documents. Must have a gmail account created prior to attending. Library staff will gladly help anyone interested in attending to set up a gmail account. Using Google Drive means important documents are stored in the cloud, and they can be reached from any computer anywhere that has internet access. This eliminates the need to carry and keep track of a flashdrive. Space is limited, registration is required.
10/17 Tues: 6:30 pm Easel Cards Learn how to make a beautiful card that can be stood up and displayed for lots of enjoyment. The card has a lovely daisy motif and lets someone special know how much you appreciate them. Registration is required as class size is limited. A materials fee of $2.50 will apply and is due upon attendance at the program. Age 12 and up.
10/18 Wed: 2 pm Iris Folding Paper crafters may want to join this group to learn how to use a special folding technique to make beautiful homemade cards. Bring pretty paper, glue, scissors and cardstock. If you have never done iris folding before, the people in attendance will be happy to show you how it is done. It is easy to learn and a great hobby that yields beautiful greeting cards for friends and family! This group will meet in the teen corner of the library.

10/21 Sat: 3 pm Needlework and Niceties This new group is targeted at those who enjoy doing all types of needlework. If you are interested in knitting, crochet, needlepoint, counted cross stitch, embroidery or any other needlework, this is the group for you! The group will meet in the teen corner of the library to work on their projects, share tips and project ideas and to socialize with other needlework enthusiasts. All are welcome to attend. Complimentary coffee will be served.
10/23 Mon: 4 pm Halloween Kahoot! Do you think you know lots about Halloween? Come play this quick trivia game and see if you are a Halloween expert! Play the game using your smart phone. 10/23 Mon: 6:30 pm Library Board Meeting Public welcome to attend. Those interested in becoming a Macedon Public Library Trustee are encouraged to attend and find out what happens at a library board
meeting. Must be a resident of the Town of Macedon to be a trustee.
10/24 Tues: 6 pm Goddess Bracelets with Merilee Come make a gorgeous, beaded bracelet with Merilee. There will be a variety of colorful beads to choose for your bracelet design. Register for the program by calling: 315-986-5932 as the class is limited to twelve participants. Must be at least ten years old to participate. A supply fee of $5 will apply for each bracelet created.

10/27 Fri. 3 pm Sew What? 3 pm Bring your own ½ yard of fabric to the library and a small bag of fiberfill and the library will supply the sewing machine, scissors, and guidance needed to make a decorative pillow.. Age 13 and up. Adults also welcome to attend. Registration requested.
10/28 Sat: 1:30-4:00 Family Maker Day Drop by the Community Room of the library with your children to have lots of fun building with Keva planks, LEGO®, magnet tiles, Little Bits and other assorted materials. Building helps children to test out the principles physics and engineering while having lots of fun in the process.
10/30 Mon: 6-7 pm Trunk or Treat Bring your costumed child to the library to participate in trick or treat fun. The library will have staff, trustees, local businesses and Friends of Macedon Public Library backed up to the sidewalk in front of the library’s entrance. Children will trick or treat by visiting the trunk of each car. Children must be costumed and 14 years of age or younger to participate. Registration is not required, but the event will last one hour or until all the candy is gone.
11/2-11-4: Friends of Macedon Public Library Fall Book Sale Browse this large sale to find books in a wide variety of genres and formats. There is guaranteed to be a treasured books to be found for all ages at highly reasonable prices. Many books are in excellent condition and lots of recently copyrighted books can be snatched-up. Of course, the pickings are always the best on the first day. Mark your calendar now! Hours: Thursday: 10 am- 5pm, Fri & Sat: 1-5 pm.
Calling music lovers of all ages….
In November, thanks to a generous grant from the Delavan Foundation, the library will again be offering a series of songwriting workshops for people of all ages. This year, participants will work on writing, recording and performing two holiday-themed songs. A public performance of the songs will take place in the library early in December. The band Alternate Sundays will join the participants in this public performance. People of all skill levels are highly encouraged to register for this fun program that promises to be a fun way to get into the holiday spirit! Call 315-986-5932 for more information or to register.
