Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
Are scholarships available? Yes, there are scholarships available for guests or campers with limited funds available. We never want a camper to miss summer camp and we will work with you; here is our scholarship policy and application form.
Do I need to be attending a Lutheran Church to attend camp? No, you do not need to attend any church to come to Caroline Furnace. All are welcome to come experience camp!
How much money do I put in my child’s camp store account? Depending on what your child wants from the camp store $10 should get you an ice cream and soda everyday. The average is about $35 for the week.
What camps fill up quickly for which I should register early? Horse Camps, Culinary, Elevation, and 2 Week High Adventure.
How do I sign up my first year camper for a 1/2 week? Half week options are available for Explorers weeks 1, 5, 6, & 8. The registration is open for a full week or half week option. If you sign up for a ½ week and your camper wants to stay we can make that arrangement also.
Can we come out to visit? Yes. we offer tours on the day of pick up or you can schedule a tour by emailing monica@carolinefurnace.org
Can my camper bring a friend and will they be in the same cabin and session? If both are signed up for the same session, they will be in the same cabin. Please indicate cabin mate requests when completing the online registration form.
When is check-in and pick-up? Check-in is Sunday starting at 4:00pm. Pick-up is Friday with a parent worship starting at 11:00am and an end of week celebration at 11:15am, pick-up is after that.
Do I have to pay a deposit now to register my camper? Yes, your deposit is $150 due for each camper at the completion of your online registration.
Do I need a foot locker for my camper? Any type luggage is fine - we recommend a storage bin or foot locker along with a laundry bag to help with organization.
What does each camp entail? Each camp includes the classic camp experience including campfires, interactive bible study, crafts and games, gaga ball, the lake, and more! Some of our camps include increased time focusing on a more specific activity. For example, if your child's favorite thing to do at camp is the lake, creek walking, and all things wet, they might enjoy one of our Hydro camps.
Where can I find the camp's description? Camps are organized by age group. On our Camps Details page, click on the grade level to find descriptions of each session organized by age group.
Where is Classic Camp?While we have changed the name of classic camp, not to worry, the experience is still there! The classic camp experience is now listed by age group. For example, if your child is in rising 4th-6th grade and interested in classic camp, you can find where voyagers is listed on the schedule: Weeks 1, 3, and 4.

Do you all offer any discounts? We're offering several discounts this year including early bird discount, sibling discount, and multi-week discount. These discounts should automatically be applied to your total upon registration. However, if you do not see them, please reach out to monica@carolinefurnace.org
Why does summer camp start later this year? While we are saddened to shorten our weeks of summer, we are overjoyed to host some great opportunities for those in the area. Following our week of confirmation camp, we have some exciting opportunities to support our community.
We will be hosting Camp HOPE America on our property.
Camp HOPE America is the leading year-round camping and mentoring program in the country for children and teens impacted by domestic violence. Their mission focuses on creating hope and healing-centered pathways through collaborative, trauma-informed care for youth exposed to trauma to believe in themselves, in others, and in their dreams. We are partnering with Shepherd on the Hills to provide a day camp experience for campers who may not be ready to spend a whole week with us.
Shepherd on the Hills is a congregation in Haymarket, Virginia who have been active supporters of Caroline Furnace for years. Pastor Darcy has served as our volunteer chaplain for many summers! We're excited to host an opportunity for day campers to enjoy our camp and property!
