The IWGA State Women’s Amatuer Championship teed off this morning at 8 a.m. at the magnificent Grove Country Club in Long Grove, Illinois. We had a beautiful sunny day to start the championship. 52 ladies played today with the low 32 qualifying for match play beginning tomorrow. Tomorrow the round of 32 will begin at 8 a.m. followed by the round of 16 to be played 40 minutes after the round of 32 is completed. Wednesday the round of 8 will be played at 8 a.m. with the semi-finals to be played 40 minutes after the round is completed. The final match will be played at 8 a.m. on Thursday morning.
Grace Curran, the defending IWGA Women’s State Amateur Champion from New Lenox, shot 70 to be named the 2022 IWGA State Women’s Amateur Medalist. Following close behind with 71 were Megan Furtney from St. Charles and Penelope Tir from Winnetka. Effie Perakis from Glenview and Nicole Johnson from Edwardsville shot an even par 72.
Carly Becker from Marengo, Illinois was the IWGA State Women’s Mid-Amateur Medalist. DeAnne Stolarik from Zion, Illinois was the IWGA State Women’s Senior Medalist.
A perfect day of competitive golf ended with a four way playoff for the 32nd position. It is evident that a top flight group of ladies are playing in this championship. We encourage you to come out to the Grove Country Club and watch these fabulous ladies play.
