STEM Capstone “Summer Assignment”

STEM Capstone is a course in which STEM Seniors solve a problem of their choosing using the STEM Design Process, with the guidance of Coach K. Metcalf. STEM Seniors propose their STEM Capstone prior to the beginning of the course in August. All rising seniors have already joined a Google Classroom for this assignment. In case a learner needs to re-join, the code is hb6nakw.

This Google Classroom has THREE tasks, found under the “classwork” tab:

Task 1: A Google form to help me get to know each learner (most completed this during Impact in March).

Task 2: Create the framework  for your digital portfolio. This is a Google Site (most created this during Impact in April).

Task 3: Capstone Proposal

• This is a Google Doc Graphic Organizer to complete.
• The focus here is on the PROBLEM TO SOLVE–NOT what you will create as a solution. This comes later.
• There are several examples posted to the assignment.

• This proposal must be approved prior to the first day of class. PLEASE email Coach Metcalf as you brainstorm ideas so that you can get feedback over the summer. She will answer emails except during the last 2 weeks of July when she will be out of town.
