Continuity Plan

2021 - 2024 School Years

Upper Scioto Valley is committed to the education of all students. We will continue to educate students in the classroom in person every day that it is safe to do so. Upper Scioto Valley Schools will work with the Hardin County Health Department to make decisions on health-related issues. Curriculum and Assessment

Upper Scioto Valley will continue to add on-line learning programs for students in Home Based Instruction.
Upper Scioto Valley will reach out to community school students to expand these programs.
Upper Scioto Valley will continue to use MAP testing to assess students in grades K-10 to ensure that students are growing as expected and interventions can be made as needed.
Upper Scioto Valley will add 30 minutes to the teacher workday starting with the 2021/2022 school year.

Facility Preparations

Cleaning Protocols - Electrostatic disinfectant sprayers will be used throughout the building and grounds on a regular basis. Extra custodial staff will be hired as needed.
Transitions and common areas will have protocols posted and explained for social distancing reasons. More specific information will be provided by the principal for each building.
For facial coverings – Upper Scioto Valley Board Policy #8450.01 will be followed by the school district and school buildings.
Student needs. If there are specific needs a student has that may cause a concern for any of these protocols, please contact the principal. If these needs are of a medical nature please, contact both the principal and the school nurse.
Handwashing and hand sanitizing – Upper Scioto Valley Board Policy 7420F will be followed by the district and school buildings.
Health and safety protocols will be explained and modeled to the students at the beginning of the school year. These will be reinforced throughout the year as needed.
Updated exhaust fans during the summer of 2021.
Air Purifying system added to the air handlers.

Security vs. Health concerns (The below safety precautions may be implemented)

All classroom doors will remain open during the school day when feasible to do so.
Bathroom doors will be propped open.
Visitors to the building will be limited.
Diagnostic screening, contact tracing and quarantine procedures will be put in place in conjunction with the recommendations of the Hardin County Health Department.
Upper Scioto Valley will work with the Hardin County Health Department and ONU Healthwise to provide opportunities for students and staff to be vaccinated.

Communications

Changes to plans will be communicated through various means, including but not limited to, the school website, Facebook, One-call system, US Mail, text messaging
Health and safety protocols will be explained and modeled to the students as needed. Changes and/or updates will be explained and communicated with students.
Plans and schedules will be shared with other schools and agencies that work with Upper Scioto Valley.

Special Education

Special education services will be handled on an individual basis based on the needs of the student. These needs will be taken into consideration when reviewing procedures with students.
Parent collaboration will take place through meetings and contacts. These meetings may be held virtually or in person depending on the situation. Various forms of communication will be used to collaborate with parents, including email, US Mail, text messaging, Remind App, phone calls, Zoom meetings, Goto Meeting…
Upper Scioto Valley will work with students with disabilities to meet their needs based on the IEP.

Social and Emotional Learning Supports

Social and emotional needs of the students are vitally important to the Upper Scioto Valley Staff.
USV has added the School and Community Resource Coordinator position to assist students with all their needs.
Social/Emotional supports will be expanded through RAMS time and homeroom activities.
Needs of the students will determine if these programs need to be expanded or adjusted.
Upper Scioto Valley will work with staff to ensure their social and emotional needs are met as well as the students' needs.

School Culture and Activities

PBIS initiatives will be continued and expanded. K-12 staff and students will work in RAMS time to build relationships.
PBIS will be expanded throughout the district to best support our students.
Reinstitute the Prevention Awareness Support Services student curriculum.

Human Resources

USV administration and the USVTA and USV OAPSE will need to work together as issues arise throughout the 2021/2022 school year. Communication will be a key component if issues do arise.
OTES 2.0 will be implemented in the 2021/2022 school year.
Upper Scioto Valley will work to ensure that all staff are working in the building throughout the school year as long as it is safe to do so.
If we are into a total remote learning environment, communication with students and families will be vital. Much of this communication will be the responsibility of the teachers. Guidelines and procedures will be given by the principals.

Informational Technology

USV has purchased Chromebooks for grades 1-12. There is a limited supply of loaner Chromebooks that may be available if one breaks.
USV is looking into all options for technology offerings for our students, including the purchasing hot spots for students.
USV will work with individual students to provide Home Based Learning for the students that want this option.

Budgetary Concerns

Many of the new protocols and procedures outlined above will come at a financial cost to the district. USV will keep a close watch on the financial implications of these protocols and procedures. However, we will not allow finances to put the safety of students and staff at risk.

This plan is a fluid document and may need to be changed or adjusted based on the needs of the students and staff. This plan will be reviewed at a minimum of twice per year.
