Rule Book Clarifications from Our SSC Ref Coordinators

Question: The placement of this rule in the book makes it unclear of when/why this is the rule. (Top of page 3)

Answer: It's referring to red cards - if a red card is given before the start of the game, the team can play with a full team. If the red card is given during the game, the team must play short a player.

Question:  When is “possession” determined - before the ball is kicked out or after? (Bottom of page 3)

“Possession prior to” means immediately before the ball is thrown back in = the Team throwing the ball in has possession prior to the throw in.

Question: Can you provide an example of “applying advantage”? (Top of page 4)

Advantage is probably the hardest rule to define/utilize but here is one example of how it might be used:

If Team A has the ball and is attacking and a player from Team B pushes the player from Team A that has the ball but the player from Team A keeps control of the ball and is able to keep proceeding forward/attacking, you can apply advantage. Instead of stopping play (while Team A still had possession and was attacking), you acknowledge that you saw the push but you are allowing play to continue.

In the same scenario, if you apply advantage and then Team B gets the ball back in the next couple of seconds or Team A doesn't attack more, you can then call the push and stop play because the advantage didn't develop/materialize.

Question: Do skorts count as shorts?

Answer: No, the rule book and league’s standard practice is for players to wear shorts (or pants per the rule book guidelines).

U6 to U8 please read area # 10 the push up rule.

There is not to be any one person defending the goal if you are on the offense and have the ball on the opposite side of the field.See below the pictograph from the book.

U9 and U10 coaches need to understand the build out rule. This is the line that is between the top of the circle on the goal box and the centerline of the field.
