Curriculum Policy This policy is applicable to all pupils in the School |
The School aims to ensure that ‘each pupil experiences a challenging, dynamic and relevant education which enables them to reach their full academic potential’. The School will offer a broad curriculum which provides pupils with opportunities to engage in an extensive range of academic and co-curricular experiences. The curriculum will reflect the School’s aims, values and ethos and will promote respect and tolerance, and fundamental British values. The curriculum will be inclusive and take account of the School’s policy and procedures for equality and diversity as well as taking account of the need to safeguard all pupils. The curriculum will recognise that pupils are individuals who have different aptitudes and needs. For those who require additional support, the School will refer to its differentiation policy. For any pupils with a statement, including those with an Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP), appropriate steps will be taken to ensure that the curriculum is delivered in such a way as to take account of the requirements of that statement. The curriculum will be planned to ensure that all pupils are encouraged to participate actively in all aspects of their learning, including in lessons, homework and co-curricular activities, and to generate an enthusiasm for learning. Teaching strategies will harness a wide range of teaching methods, resources and activities and make effective use of available time. The curriculum will seek to promote flexible and independent learning, as well as the skills needed to thrive in a technologically sophisticated world. The curriculum will be designed to enable all pupils to have the opportunity to learn and make progress whilst developing a wide-ranging set of skills, knowledge and values that will help them prepare effectively for and understand the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life in the world in which they live and for their future adult life. Appropriate, accurate and up-to-date careers information, advice and guidance will be provided in an impartial manner and supported by other activities which will enable pupils to make informed decisions about their future and to fulfil their potential. For all pupils, the amount of time given to each element of the curriculum will be age appropriate and designed to enable pupils to progress to their next stage, both within the School or externally, including higher education or work, without restricting their options. For those pupils below compulsory school age, the School will provide a programme that reflects their needs in relation to their personal, emotional, social and physical development and communication and language skills. The curriculum at each stage of the School will be reviewed regularly to ensure it meets the needs of the pupils. |
