2019-20 School Calendar & School Hours Survey

2019-20 School Calendar & School Hours Survey

Catawba County Schools is interested in your feedback about modifying our school calendar and school hours for the 2019-2020 school year.  Please take a moment to share your thoughts and respond to the questions in the survey linked below. The information that our Catawba County Schools families and staff provide will be used to guide our administration and Board of Education as we plan for the 2019-2020 school year.

Why are we considering changing our existing calendar and start times?

We have five main concerns not addressed with our current calendar and start times.

  1. Our calendar is not aligned with colleges and universities so our high school students who graduate early are not able to begin their college career immediately.
  2. High school students must take their exams after Christmas break causing a two-week interruption prior to their exams.

What types of changes are we considering?

What are the State Calendar Requirements?

Local Boards of Education do not have the flexibility to determine start and end dates for school per legislation from the North Carolina General Assembly that public schools must follow. You may read it in detail here: http://www.dpi.state.nc.us/fbs/accounting/calendar.
