It was first registered 13 March 2023

Production date 11 November 2022

Rejected 17 August 2023

Why?

Because 13 March it had been constantly back and forth with Dick Lovetts service department in Melksham. When all the days were added up, it was in service for over a month…and they still couldn’t fix it

On Leon Vitti’s advice I rejected the car.

He said I needed to formally send an email to reject and send to Alphabet.

It was rejected for the following 28 issues:

  1. Black screen - the disappearing speedo. You don’t know how fast you are travelling
  2. Drive unit permanent malfunction
  3. Car loses connectivity for days on end due to esim - longest two weeks
  4. Server connection issues (this was a constant issue)
  5. Tyre pressure alerts even though no issues
  6. CarPlay failure - will connect and disconnect multiple times whilst driving
  7. The ‘petrol flap’ aka the charging flap will say CLOSE FLAP …and it is closed
  8. The BMW app takes up to 2 weeks to update and sync
  9. There was a rattling / strange clunk coming from the back of the car when you go over speed bumps
  10. Drivetrain error messages appear then disappear
  11. PDC activation malfunction
  12. Seats will reset and loose programming
  13. Front camera failure - then finds itself
  14. Emergency call system failure messages will appear all the time
  15. Alexa works then fails
  16. Random volume changes - huge increases in volume and a scramble to turn it down
  17. Acoustic pedestrian warnings fail
  18. Maps will fail and not update leaving you driving in the dark when you enter cities or have to take a different route
  19. Safety camera / speed camera disappear… after you pay for a subscription
  20. Spotify ‘jumps’ after 5 seconds, pauses, then continues
  21. No indicator noises. No reverse noises.  No alert sounds.
  22. Bluetooth fails and says not compatible with the device/iphone, even though it had just connected
  23. Sunroof makes a crackling/electrical noise and can make a cracking / snapping sound
  24. Permanent malfunction on telematics
  25. Navigation permanent failure
  26. Sound system will randomly come on when driving even though it is off/ Gesture control is turned off
  27. Headrests have severely hurt my Nan and nephew. They are both of small height, and when you brake the back of their head hits the metal. Terrible design. I have asked for inserts. They never arrived
  28. Bowers and Wilkins speaker system crackles and hisses. The convertors are damaged and lossless failures happen, making certain songs sound like the singer has a lisp

I have since found out that the production date / batch of this car is prone to failure and malfunction

I was told that Alphabet would collect the car. That didn’t happen

I chased Alphabet and was told:

This is what I had back from Dick Lovett in Melksham

I made arrangements to drop the car to Dick Lovett Melksham

It was handed back 4 October 2023

Ross (Dick Lovett Melksham) inspected the car

On the 9th October at 0753 I was asked to remove my digital key from the car

Between returning the car and removing my digital key, Dick Lovett Melksham made 26 trips, including Bristol, restaurants, hairdressers, car parks and pubs.

On December 4 Alphabet claimed I had damaged the car and needed to pay £215

I reiterated the car was inspected by Ross at Dick Lovett, and in the 5 days (4 - 9 October) after drop off, and before I removed the digital key, it had been driven by Dick Lovett Melksham 26 times. Who knows how many other times it was driven in the 52 days

I called Saffi at 1716 on 4 December

I asked if she could speak with Alphabet

I was met with animosity. Why? Because I had filled in a questionnaire saying how dismayed I was with the car and had rated certain parts low. Saffi told me that she, Leon Vitti and Janet Clark were ‘very annoyed’ as my rating meant they did not get a bonus.  There was no offer of help, just animosity. I was also told she could not speak any more as she was driving to a council meeting.

I called Janet, and apologised that the scoring meant she did not receive a bonus. She said she understood why I had scored low and was expecting it. I told her about the trips made by Dick Lovett staff. She was dismayed that the car had been used saying ‘I wonder who has been driving it? This is not allowed’ . She would look into it and get back to me. I chased two times. She never did. I called Leon Vitti about it twice. He never returned my call.  In the end I created WN23ACV.com and decided to do some investigation

Since this document went live, Alphabet has backed down

Where is the car now?

The car is for sale at Sytner BMW in Stevenage

£40,000 has been deducted off the RRP of this car

I called Sytner BMW

Dealership confirmed Sytner had been in receipt of the car for 27 days - it came into stock on 8 November. Alphabet claimed they had picked up the car on 30 November …how did Sytner get the car 22 days BEFORE Alphabet said it had been picked up from Dick Lovett?

I asked if the car had ever had any faults or any issues

I was reassured the car was perfect and there were no issues

Watch the video here

This was followed up with an email

I called again - was the service history clean?

Again I was reassured it was. There are no faults

Speakers good? Screen? How's the connectivity? All good

There is a voice recording which you can access here

When pushed about the ownership of the car I was told it was owned by BMW headquarters (see email) and when we spoke I was told it was an executive at BMW who was the owner, and not a customer (business or consumer)

In Manzur’s defence he is only acting on the information he has (or in this case, hasn’t) been given

Ultimately : do NOT buy this car

I did manage to get my hands on the service record.
