Video explanation of this task

Step 1

Paste an image of the concept map you created in Week 2 in this cell

Step 2

Create a copy of this concept map and add your new knowledge to it.  Provide the link to the new concept map here or paste an image.

Step 3

OPTION 1: Create a Poster in Google Slides or Canva

  • Create a poster (8.5” x 11” or larger) that illustrates and informs people about the particular area of the pandemic that you chose to deep dive into.
  • Criteria:
  • You should have a single, coherent message
  • Use simple combinations of colors.
  • Space it out.
  • Choose no more than three fonts.
  • Come up with a solid, eye-catching design.
  • Decide on what's important and what's not.
  • Click on the Google Sheets icon to the left for the template OR you could use Canva which has templates as well.  Canva's Tutorials.  Paste a link to your poster or an image at the bottom of this step.

OPTION 2: Create a Screencast or Video

  • Create an instructional video (screencast) that details what you learned in your deep dive.
  • Criteria:
  • Length: between 3 and 5 minutes long.
  • Pacing: Avoid a long introduction; get the user started quickly. However, do not move quickly. Leave short breaks (2-5s) between chunks of information.
  • Text: should be used in a very limited fashion.
  • Mouse Movement: The pointer should move naturally, but slowly enough for the user’s eyes to follow. Remember that you are performing the process for others.
  • Close-ups: A close-up is a zoomed in shot of a portion of the screen. These can be effective at highlighting an important area of the screen or showing detail, but close ups need to be used in conjunction with establishing shots to guide the user’s eyes.
  • Narration: Narration should not simply describe, it should complement. Remember to speak in a clear voice, avoid monotone, and do not rush. Allow your personality to come through. The narration should explain "why" as the video shows "how." When scripting a narration, remember that spoken language is different from written language; it is more colloquial: contractions, incomplete sentences, slang, etc. (Atkinson, 1993).
  • Music: Music is acceptable for longer screencasts; it helps the user stay attentive during periods of  no narration. It can be effective in drawing in the user during the first moments of the screencast.
