To MVGS Parents/Guardians:

The Virginia General Assembly created model policies concerning instructional materials with sexually explicit content.  In compliance with Senate Bill 656 (SB 656) and amended Virginia code 22.1-16.8, Mountain Vista Governor’s School (MVGS) is required to adhere to the following:

1. Ensure advance parental/guardian notification of the intended use of any instructional materials with sexually explicit content in their child’s education;

2. Ensure parents/guardians have the ability to inspect and review instructional materials that are identified as including sexually explicit content; and

3. Ensure parents/guardians have the opportunity to select for their child the option of alternative instructional materials and related academic activities that do not contain sexually explicit content.

Below, to comply with the amended code and Senate bill, you will find a chart outlining objectives, learning goals, materials, and/or activities used or conducted throughout the school year at MVGS.

Please contact me should you want to review any of these materials or discuss alternative instructional materials.

Sincerely,

Ladona Gorham
