BMIDs EXPLAINED!

WHAT THE HECKIN IS A BMID GOOD FOR

CONTEXT

You like to eat and shower. We also want you to do that while you’re sharing your time and energy with us, working hard out in the sun to make something magic happen.

Your Burning Man Identification (BMID) gives you access to those things.

Occasionally it has other perks too- sometimes people want to give you gifts or say thank you when they realize what you’ve been doing to keep the dream alive.

It also relieves stress for the folk whose job it is to let you in and keep the rest out- most of them are just trying to do a good job, so let’s be gentle with each other when things go awry.

THE PROCESS BEHIND A DPW BMID

  1. So you’re confirmed for the season and on a crew! That’s great. That’s step one.
  2. You filled out the DPW Round Up and submitted a suitable photo.
  3. Your Manager added you to their Crew Matrix spreadsheet, and then your Council Member pulled you from there and put you on the final Staffing Index spreadsheet.
  4. Then, your record pops up in a BMID processing work-sheet in Airtable if all the names match up. Your Job Title is added in, your photo is reviewed and saved, eat status reviewed and marked. It’s all copied and pasted into a spreadsheet that is sent to the BMID Tech Team and from there uploaded into a tricky old ass program and they make magic come out.
  5. Every time you mess with one of these steps by submitting a photo of you as a toddler, putting an entirely different name than the one you gave your Manager, or listing three different playa names with commas, ( ), and fancy L醆é®s, this process slows down.
  6. Sometimes data doesn’t match up the first time and there is a legitimate oops along the way and that’s okay. It’s an imperfect system.

PICKING IT UP

IF YOU DIDN’T DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME

Do not fill out the DPW Round Up a second time.
