Michelle Obama spoke to our students. John Kasich did a campaign rally at our EagleBank Arena. We have had Trevor Noah, Gabriel Iglesias, Disney on Ice, Thomas Rhett

What percentage of students stay on campus during the weekends?

Most of our students do. We are not a ‘Commuter-School’. We have over +450 Clubs/Organizations on campus as well many thriving Division 1 (A10 Conference) Athletic Teams.

New initiatives on campus and/or institutional goals?

Emphasis on ‘Experiential Learning’ with a focus on Internships and Study Abroad. 1st ‘Wellbeing University’  on Eastern Coast. Promotion of a diverse campus experience.

What is something you might find at the school that may not exist at any other school?

Our opportunities and location is unmatched, as we are in the #1 Post-Graduate destination in America and we have more companies and organizations for our students to internship or capitol hill experience.

Over 100k alumni in the surrounding area makes networking very easy for current students and graduate students.

Unsure, we are the Largest, Public, Research Institution in VA

What is the distance to the nearest big city? And what is that city?

15 Miles to Washington D.C., or approximately 35-45 minutes.

What is the approximate distance from Westborough, driving and/or flying?

427 Miles, 7 hour drive or an 1 hour and 30 minute flight.

What are your most popular majors?

D.C. Area Majors. Government and Int’l Relations, Neuroscience, Business (AACSB Accredited, 2 nobel laureates), Criminology, Forensic Science, Legal Studies, Engineering (Electrical, Biomechanical, Civil & Infrastructure, Computer, Cybersecurity, Systems), Computer Game Design, Theater (ranked 8th in nation), Nursing and Pre-Med, our Law School, Psychology, Creative Writing, Communications, Tourism and Events Management.

What are your newest and/or most unique majors?

Neuroscience, Computer Game Design.

What majors are you hoping to grow?

All. We have a strong bit of everything, and we plan to continue build new facilities to accommodate student academic interests .

Will applying “undecided” for a major affect a student’s chances for acceptance?


Is there a statistical advantage to applying early decision or early action?

No. We only have EA. EA is recommended over Regular Decision at Mason.

If interviews are required or recommended, where and by whom are they conducted?

No interview process, 1-on-1 meetings available per students request and Counselor availability

Are students automatically considered for merit scholarships with the application to the school?

Yes. As long as students apply before Nov. 1st under Early Action.

What percentage of demonstrated financial aid do you meet?


Is there anything else a student should know that they will not easily find in a guidebook or online?

Mason students have the highest starting salary out of any VA College/University as well as the highest return on investment for an Education in VA.

We have been in the final four for Basketball, we have olympic gold medalists as well.one of our W. Basketball players was just drafted to the WNBA.

We are a tier-1 research institution (highest level) and 74% of our students engage in undergraduate research or an internship

Our location and connection to D.C. gives us our students invaluable experiences and our professors include Nobel-laureates, Pulitzer Prizewinners, Robinson Scholars, Fulbright Scholars, CEO’s, CFO’s, former staff under the Obama Administration, and many more.
