Hi Community Friend,
The Person County Education Foundation (PCEF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1988, is committed to assisting the continued success and support of our Person County college bound students by offering and awarding scholarships. Our mission is to enhance the number and size of these scholarship awards, as well as expand eligibility to a broader group of students. Simply put, we want to assist as many students as possible to become college graduates, and WE NEED YOUR HELP!
In 2022, we were able to recognize 28 graduating high school seniors from Person County, with scholarship awards totaling $32,000. Another eight (8) previous winners of renewable scholarships also received awards totaling $19,000, based on their continued academic success, for a grand total PCEF award value this year of $51,000, down slightly from 2021. These students are successfully enrolled at 12 different trade schools, community colleges, or 4-year public and private colleges or universities.
And yet, we were unable to award 18 qualified applicants any amount of financial assistance.
Today marks the start of our 2023 Annual Giving Campaign, to fundraise for ongoing operating expenses (about $24,000 annually for Executive Director’s salary, technology and supplies) and new scholarship support. We do not operate out of an office. We want every dollar possible to go towards student aid. Like many organizations that rely on support of community friends like you--again, we get NO financial support from Person County Schools or Person County Government, nor any support from any State of NC or Federal Government agency--we hope you will join alongside us. Our campaign runs through March 31, and you may contribute by personal check, our least cost, and therefore favored, option at PCEF, P.O. Box 845, Roxboro, 27573. Additionally, you may contribute online, as provided on our website, www.personcoeducationfoundation.org. Further, the Foundation email is personcoeducationfoundation@gmail.com should you have questions.
Thank you for reading our solicitation letter and for any support you may provide. We cannot do what we currently do without YOU, and we sure want to do more!!
Zeke Smith, Executive Director
