Secondary ELA/Reading Curriculum Specialist
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year, Clay County ELA and Reading teachers! I am Rebecca Billiot, your Secondary ELA & Reading Specialist.
Reflecting on my childhood and adolescence in Louisiana, I can still vividly recall the teachers who inspired me and instilled in me a deep love for reading and learning. Therefore, it seemed natural for me to pursue a path where I could also help others to do the same. After obtaining my undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University in Secondary Education, I moved to Florida and accepted my first teaching position as a high school reading teacher. It is during that first year that I began to understand the complex challenges students and teachers face. Consequently, I developed a passion for the teaching profession and most importantly, helping students achieve their goals and aspirations in spite of challenges. Over the course of fourteen years, I am grateful for the many opportunities I have had to support others while also expanding my knowledge in the field of education. I have been a Reading and ELA teacher in grades 7-12, a reading coach, and an instructional coach for new teachers. Because I am always yearning to learn more, I graduated with a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from UNF in April of 2016. As I enter my second year in this role, I am honored to say that I support you‒ the outstanding secondary ELA and Reading teachers of Clay. I am looking forward to continuing our partnership this year to assist you and the students of Clay County.
The most important yardstick of your success will be how you treat others.
Every student deserves a great teacher, not by chance, but by design.
